We are IT Recruitment Specialists partnered with a prestigious Global Consultancy who required a Windows Chef Engineer- Knutsford - 2 days working onsite, the balance of time will be remote for one of their public sector Clients based in the UK.

Role and tasks
Windows Chef Engineer
As a Windows Lead Engineer with Chef expertise, we expect to possess a healthy mixture of both technical and leadership skills. Successful candidate would have an expert knowledge of using Chef as CI/CD tools in Windows environments, facilitating technologies and be capable to drive change majorly targeting Cyber Resiliency framework development. Understanding of development life cycles process and using Chef DSL or other Scripting languages is important to deliver key engineering deliverables. Responsibilities will include automation, optimization, research of new technologies and develop cyber resilient framework. You may be asked to dive in to a major project delivering the solution as per design. The primary responsibility will be to understand the life cycle existing product sets, help to shape backup and restore mechanism of server estate and implement it. Often, you'll have to write code.
Key Accountabilities:
Work within the global Server Engineering teams to deliver on critical project and items related to the Server Cyber Resilient framework engineering and development.
Expertise in writing Chef cookbooks and InSpec profiles and experience in using Chef and its ancillary products
Understanding and knowledge of Infrastructure-as-a-Code concepts and tools (Chef/cfengine/Ansible/Puppet etc.)
Deliver and work with toolsets needed to support Windows/Linux
Work closely with support and project delivery Linux teams, to ensure the engineering deliverables meet Cyber Resiliency design needs
Person Specification:
An engineer who has worked on the Server platform engineering specializing in operating system engineering and automation implementations in a large, global environment is required. It is preferable if this experience has been gained whilst working in financial services
Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
Development/Strong Scripting experience with a language such as Chef DSL, Chef cookbook, and or Ruby
Strong in using DevOps CI/CD Pipelines specifically Atlassian tools that includes Jenkins, Bit-Bucket and JIRA system
Experience of Server Build and Deployment, Security Configuration
Experience with Desired State Configuration tools
Practical experience with Automation, Configuration, or Security tools (ie Ansible, Powerbroker, Chef, Jenkins, etc.)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to be able to work in a globally distributed team of both colleagues and business stakeholders
Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of enterprise networking and storage concepts
Good problem solving and analytical skills and able to transfer skills and knowledge to other team members
Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.)
Knowledge of UNIX based operating systems
