You will undertake hydrographic surveys , verifying and processing the data collected, to produce periodic bathymetric charts and information relevant to the safety of navigation.
The hydrographic data must be processed and distributed, including the Harbour Master, as well as to stipulated stakeholders, as per the requirements of the Hydrographic manual.
The Port Hydrographer will be required to:
Undertake biannual bathymetric surveys, monthly update surveys and any additional ad-hoc surveys as and when required
Produce monthly bathymetric charts for internal use and biannual bathymetric charts for external use, potentially including S57 format updates for stakeholders ECDIS systems, as applicable
Ensure that all Hydrographic equipment is maintained and is fully operational at all times, in conjunction with the Technical Superintendent
Be familiar with the methodology of calculating dredge volumes and associated planes, providing this data to the dredger
Be the responsible person for ensuring all buoys and water based markers within the CHA are maintained and operational
Skills and Qualifications
Degree in Geography, Hydrogeology, Geophysics or any other subject that might be related
At least 1 year’s practical experience in hydrography surveying, including inshore survey techniques
Demonstrable knowledge and at least 1 years experience, using multi beam survey systems
Proficient with current computerised systems, RTK GPS, sound navigation systems and SONARs
Experience in the operations of small boats
Full current driving licence and use of own vehicle
