The Mechanical Sustaining Engineer role includes the following responsibilities:
To support the ongoing manufacture of our life safety products that are made in our high-volume manufacturing facility in Havant, UK.
Work with our Suppliers and internal Process and Quality Engineering teams to ensure that components meet all design requirements across their life time.
Extensive design and manufacturing knowledge of high-volume plastic injection moulded components and small metal fabrications.
Be able to carry out effective DFMEAs & PFMEAs.
Carry out 8D analysis to ensure that the root causes of issues are found and acted upon.
Ability to take long term quality data and analyse the impact of any defects in production.
Work with other members of the design team to ensure that products are optimised for sustainable manufacture.
Identify, evaluate & introduce new technologies, cost reductions or materials where appropriate.
Use Solidworks part & assembly modelling tools to update designs and document with 2D Drafting. Experience of working with Model Based Definition would be advantageous. Knowledge of our legacy CAD system – Ideas - would be beneficial.
Propose improvements to designs and update product documentation through the Design Change Order process.
Checking your own work as well as other team member’s drawings and documentation for errors.
To multi-task in a demanding and evolving environment.
Organize and maintain existing engineering records
Perform physical testing on engineering prototypes
Ensure components and assemblies adhere to applicable industry and business standards
A successful candidate must, as a minimum, be able demonstrate the following:
A methodical and efficient work ethic with excellent attention to detail.
Proven problem-solving skills.
The ability to develop documentation that is easily understood by others, is as simplified as possible and easy to update.
Be able to understand complex links between various issues, identifying any areas that may have conflicting requirements.
A self-starter with a proven ability to work independently without close supervision, seeing things through to completion.
It would be an advantage also to be able to demonstrate any of the following:
Working with high volume manufacturing.
Knowledge of product approvals
