On Line People Limited are currently looking for a Head of Engineering for one of our major clients based in Leeds for their Gas Business Unit. This is a permanent position working full time hours Monday to Friday.

The Opportunity

The Gas Business Unit comprises the company’s existing gas fired power stations as well as targeted growth through both acquisition and new build development.

An opportunity has arisen for the company to recruit a Head of Engineering (Gas Business Unit). The role will be responsible for the Gas Business Unit Engineering Strategy so that the assets operate safely, efficiently and in compliance with all relevant legislation. This is a key position in creating value to the business by the introduction of innovative ways of working whilst seeking ways to improve business performance.

The role will implement a reliability strategy across the Gas Business Unit (and potentially wider business) that both improves availability whilst reducing maintenance costs, create and develop a central engineering team that is aligned to the business and enables excellence.

The role will be based at the Yorkshire Office but will consist of travelling to other UK locations on a regular basis.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Gas Operations, the key responsibilities and duties will include: -

* Responsible for the Engineering Strategy across the Gas Business Unit, which includes Pressure Systems Safety Compliance and Plant Status Review. Ensuring that the Technical Review process is implemented effectively and takes account of plant running regime and life expectancy

* Working with the sites to generate end of life engineering strategies and business plans for future investment, taking into account business requirements, changes in regulatory requirements and industry best practice. Creating and maintaining a prioritised list of all projects

* Responsible for the co-ordination and control of the overall engineering risk management process. Creating and maintaining a central risk log and ensuring that suitable mitigation plans are in place and managed appropriate. Using Plant Status Review to drive risk management

* Taking ownership of Gas Business Unit engineering standards, ensuring that these are appropriate, implemented and maintained. Auditing and reviewing compliance and putting into place corrective actions, as required. Working with the other business units and Technical Committee to ensure that consistent standards are maintained

* Awareness of any new legislation that may affect engineering strategy. Ensuring that the implications of this is reviewed, interpreted and a risk-based implementation plan created. Leading the implementation of plan

* Providing and maintaining an effective and efficient level of technical support to the assets, using the company’s staff and third-party support as appropriate. Ensuring that TSA contracts required to fulfil the function are available and managed to achieve targets, value for money and high standards of business integrity

* Developing and leading the central engineering team such that they deliver excellent technical performance that underpins the business financial drivers and creates value to the business

* Managing the activities of the Reliability Team, ensuring a process of continual improvement to plant availability and a reduction of maintenance costs

Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be Degree (or equivalent) qualified in a relevant discipline (preferably mechanical engineering)

Background

* Significant experience of engineering management in the thermal power generation industry, specifically PSSR management including the Technical Review process

* Significant experience in an appropriate Technical or Engineering discipline

* Substantial knowledge and experience of the technical management of thermal power stations

* Working knowledge of power industry safety organisations such as GENSIP and Energy UK

* Understanding of business financial drivers with the ability to understand financial metrics and information

Qualifications

* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline

* Working towards Chartered / Incorporated Engineer status

* Membership of an appropriate professional institution

The successful candidate will be appointed on a personal contract which reflects the responsibilities of the role as well as the abilities of the individual.
