Location Overview

The Freshfields Global Centre provides both business and legal services to the firm. Our services are delivered in a way which supports the global nature of our firm and our clients, enables our fee earners to deliver exceptional service to our clients and to do that in a way which is efficient and effective. Our Centre in Manchester is the first site to be established in the emerging Freshfields Global operating model. Our aspiration is to establish further sites in the US and Asia-Pacific in the coming years.

Function Overview

The Finance Support function in Manchester provides centralised global support to the firm across its network of offices. Teams currently include Billing, Procurement and Management Accounting.

The Billing team is an essential part of the wider Finance department of the firm and is expected to deliver an exceptional service to our fee earners and clients. The Billing function is extremely fast-paced and our role is to assist fee earners across the network with all aspects of invoice review and processing.

The Global Procurement team, located in Manchester and Frankfurt, is responsible for leading sourcing initiatives, developing and implementing category strategies within the firm. In addition, the team provides support and guidance to the rest of the business with regard to supplier relationship management, spend analytics, procurement compliance and training.

The Group Management Accounts team works alongside the firm’s Chief Financial Officer, senior management partners and global support heads to provide the financial information required to run the business. In addition to the prompt provision of financial data and analytics, the team is expected to manage, develop and control the production of management data across the firm’s local finance functions, providing them with support and guidance through continual review and development.

Role Purpose

Working within the systems area of the finance support department and specifically within the reporting team you will act as a link between Finance and Technology, with your specific responsibility being to organize and perform testing on enhancements and fixes to reporting applications on a global basis. These applications range from reports and dashboards through to the data warehouse and ad-hoc analysis

In order to test these applications you will need to understand the complexities of financial information, calculations and processes to ensure that information is correctly calculated and displayed throughout the applications in question. This will require not only some elements of financial understanding but also an appreciation for how data flows from system to system. In addition, the role requires complete understanding of a development release cycle and differing release environments.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

The role will involve design, plan and run all test phases for releases;

*

Take control of the testing process;

*

Design and plan test strategies for changes to applications including the provision and management of the creation of test plans for each test cycle using experience to take into account risk areas. Estimate testing effort required for each test phase;

*

Faithfully translate end user experience and actions into test plans;

*

Work closely with the development teams and third party providers, feeding back issues and defects discovered through testing and coordinating their resolution;

*

Coordinating, contributing to, and participating in, the build and release management process with development teams;

*

Diligently follow test plans and investigate issues encountered;

*

Maintaining issues and defect logs, ensuring these are reconciled and re-tested with each new release;

*

Coordinating and directing the testing effort of business users;

*

Investigate the root causes of issues in order to help with their resolution;

*

Design and maintenance of systems documentation ensuring they are clear and accurate and create and send clear communications to interested parties on issue resolution;

*

Communicating with other team members for a consistent approach to testing;

*

Collaborating with the development teams to design and implement automated testing methods;

*

Provide updates and overviews of testing progress to management;

*

Production of training materials and documentation;

*

Maintaining and creation of test data and general management of environments;

*

Provide defect management to include tracking, reporting, remediation and closure;

*

To recreate defects before being prioritised and assigned to the relevant teams for fixing.

Key Requirements

Financial skills including;

*

Experience of financial systems within a professional services environment, ideally from a legal background;

*

Understanding of the finance function processes and revenue recording systems;

*

Understanding of financial terminology.

Technical Skills

*

Experience of practical testing experience covering all areas of the testing lifecycle;

*

Strong understanding of testing processes, methodologies and best practices including waterfall, V, Agile;

*

Liaise with internal IT on technical related issues;

*

Knowledge of servers and database structures;

*

Basic SQL knowledge;

*

Knowledge of systems infrastructure including multi-tiered architecture;

*

Medium to advanced knowledge of Excel, including vlookups and formulae.

Task Management & Presentation Skills

Very well organized;

Ability to operate autonomously throughout the project life cycle through to delivery;

Ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines;

Ability to multi task;

Be able to present high quality documentation;

Strong planning and execution skills with attention to detail.
