About the Role:
The scope of Colas Solutions focuses on technical assistance, trouble shooting, and adapting products for the Colas US companies for asphalt mixes, preservation products (spray applied, mixes, and emulsions), binders, and soils. The laboratory technician position, under the laboratory supervisor, will be trained to perform testing procedures, interpret and report data. The technician will develop his experience on job sites experiments relative to their laboratory projects. Building interaction and engagement with other engineers and technicians, while working toward project autonomy and management.
⦁ Performs physical laboratory testing in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO testing and specifications standards.
⦁ Calculates, records, and maintains test results and the records thereof and writes test reports and/or presentations for internal and/or external purposes.
⦁ Assists in the determination of product formulations and development.
⦁ Effectively communicates with direct co-workers, supervisors, and various Colas companies regarding testing procedures and results.
⦁ Participate in personnel in-house training and competency evaluations.
⦁ Participate in external seminars and training.
⦁ Cleans, maintains, and calibrates laboratory instruments and equipment.
⦁ Remain current on all safety training and diligently follow safe work practices.
⦁ Engage in safety.
⦁ Other projects and duties as assigned.
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Material Science or related field required.
- Co-op or internship in laboratory or field experience in an industrial environment highly preferred.
- General laboratory experience is desired
- Must work and communicate well with other employees, vendors, and agencies
- Quality oriented with good attention to detail
- Ability to interpret laboratory results, plant and field data to make recommendations and improve quality
- Ability to conduct comprehensive technical studies
- Ability to determine and communicate data inconsistency
- Knowledge of computer-based programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Ability to travel overnight as required
- Laboratory and/or field experience in asphalt quality control is a plus.
