The Systems Engineering Manager oversees a team of engineers designing and implementing complex radio systems that satisfy specific customer requirements. Systems involve Harris and vendor equipment, and typically include RF Base Station & Repeater equipment, microwave links, IP networks, wireless data, RF antenna subsystems, 911 dispatch and/or other custom subsystems.
The candidate should be familiar with Harris Windows & UNIX based platforms as well as various security platforms used within the Harris network. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring projects follow Harris Tollgate processes and standard engineering practices to maintain high standards of security, availability, and performance for large-scale DoD and public safety communications systems. The candidate should have Windows/UNIX and Active Directory expertise in order to support the system engineering team and serve as escalation point for deployment issues.
The successful candidate will; aggressively resolve problems; Execute to Standard Operating Procedures; Coordinate and facilitate activities with vendors, escalation teams, and other teams within Harris. Maintain high standards of quality to providing solid consistent reliable and secure performance for large-scale public safety systems.
- Manage a diverse workforce with the goals of improving retention, identifying needed training, and mentoring
- Reviewing the Design, implementation, and support of complex IP-Based radio system networks
- Providing feedback on Windows, UNIX and IA products to product engineering
- Ensuring deployed systems meet documentation & configuration revision control standards
- Documenting lessons learned
The Systems Engineering Manager drives improvement in the program implementation process by actively participating in every phase of the design, staging, configuration and implementation of Harris Land Mobile Radio systems, looking for new ways to simplify, improve and streamline our program operations. They will be involved in technical planning, system integration, functional verification, performance validation, and process improvement vs cost/risk analysis.
The candidate will participate in discussions with customers, consultants, vendors and other Harris personnel as necessary to advance projects. The candidate will have excellent verbal and written skills. Occasional presentations to customers and Harris management will be required.
Approximately 25%-40% travel required.
After a training period the employee may be located in Las Vegas, NV, Dallas, TX, Sunrise FL, Lynchburg, VA, Rochester, NY.
- Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience.
