Welder Operative – Sheffield

JOB PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Production Manager the job purpose of the Welder Operative will be to operate welding equipment in order to assemble and weld components to drawing specification and / or manufacturing orders.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Operate welding equipment, to assemble and weld components, producing required components which will be used to build simple and complex items or other assemblies to form more complete systems;

2. Ensure components meet provided requirements / standards;

3. Work to a schedule, accurately, in a timely manner and with a steady hand, both on own initiative and simultaneously as part of a larger team.

4. Understand assembly-specific technical demands of the welding process;

5. Understand how the welding process fits into the process of component amalgamation;

6. Conduct fitment, building or rebuilding work quickly and accurately;

7. Communicate with other stations and departments within the operations team;

8. Use a variety of electronic scanning and reporting tools when applicable;

9. Communicate any discrepancies to the chargehand / responsible engineer for updating of drawings and / or manufacturing orders;

10. Work efficiently and effectively as part of a team;

11. Maintain a clean and tidy warehouse and working area;

12. Maintain high levels of Health & Safety at all times;

13. Adhere to all PPE / workwear requirements;

14. Achieve targets and job standards as set out by Team Leaders / Management;

15. Flexible approach to tasks given in a busy working environment; 16. Ensure any job going over budget is reported along with cause of overspend.

Person Specification:

Experience:

▪ Good level of academic achievement (ideally served apprenticeship)

▪ Previous experience of working within a fast-paced and often demanding production area

▪ Previous experience of working in a similar role

▪ Experienced in working with metals/fabrications

Knowledge and Skills:

▪ Excellent communication / interpersonal skills to interact successfully at all levels

▪ Competent time management and organisational skills

▪ Proven planning and prioritising skills

▪ Understanding of design and engineering manufacturing procedures

▪ Initiative and diligence

▪ Attention to detail & accuracy

Other:

▪ Valid Full UK Driving Licence

▪ Expectation to undertake some travel to meet business needs
