A manufacturing company, specialising in the manufacture of niche components for a wide range of industries.
Purpose, Objectives and relationship to the aim of the organisation.
Very much a hands-on position, the role will work closely with the production department ensuring all manufacturing equipment is performing to its best and a continual development program is underway to improve equipment performance for the future.
Main tasks and key areas.
Coordination with the production department to ensure that all manufacturing equipment is maintained and set-up ready for operators to meet production deadlines.
Work on the development of new products for the marketplace, commissioning new / modified equipment to point of acceptance for production to take over responsibilities.
Meeting suppliers to ensure that equipment consumables are available when required. As the candidate progresses they would be expected to provide cover during periods when production management are unavailable.
Hours of work.
Normal working hours are 7:45 – 16:45, Monday – Friday. Due to the nature of this position it may require times where extra hours need to be worked including starting up / shutting down of the plant for production and the need to undertake maintenance outside production hours to ensure equipment is available for the next shift.
Effective task performance expectations. Performance measurement criteria is - in place for output and the candidate’s success would be measured against the production department achieving these. We have an ISO 9001 certification and all operations will be in line with these guidelines and ensuring our certification is maintained.
Job position within the organisational structure.
The candidate would report to the General Manager and initially work alongside other members of the setting / maintenance team.
Physical and social environment
Particular features of work environment – The working environment would normally be indoors, although their maybe rare occasions when outdoor work may need to be undertaken. The production process requires the use of hazardous gases and electrical equipment, the position will be responsible for these services.
The role will require contact with others in the company and therefore require interpersonal skills to ensure an harmonious environment is maintained.
Training and education
Planned training, - This will be dependant on the candidate and on-job training and external courses associated with the job will be provided to ensure the development of the candidate in the areas required.
Promotion and development opportunities.- This position is a job for the future, the opportunities will only be limited by the person them selves. The company will be looking for a long-term commitment with the applicant as they grow into a senior member of the production management team
The role will require a person with a strong engineering background working in a production environment, experience of mechanical engineering, including pneumatics, machinery strip / re-builds and fault finding is essential, additional electrical / plc knowledge would be an advantage. The person would be most happy when working to a tight deadline and would want to grow in both personnel development and stature in the company they work.
At least 5 year’s experience of working in a production environment.
Experience of working on Machine tools including, turning, grinding and drilling equipment in a setting / maintenance type role.
Experience of organising and prioritising a demanding workload
Experience of Quality measurement and equipment maintenance
Experience of production equipment improvement.
Problem solving environment.
Experience of Quality systems and working with MRP systems
HND/C in a mechanical discipline
Quality system qualification
Product Engineering with the ability to analyse process routes for continuous improvement.
Knowledge of best practice / performance management philosophy
Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally to both subordinates and peers.
Leadership and motivational skills, to allow future development of the individual.
Understanding of quality related issues and a commitment to continuing improvement to products and service
Ability to analyse issues and problem solve
Ability to make decisions and take appropriate action.
Able to respond positively to highly pressurised situations
