Actuation Systems CofEx - Systems Architect
Posted on Jun 10, 2019 by CV-Library
The Actuation Systems Centre of Excellence (CofEx) is rapidly developing as it advances the state-of-the-art in Actuation Systems for MBDA project customers across UK, France, Italy and Germany. This role will span systems and hardware architectural design, including functional and performance aspects during bid, concept, development and support phases.
What are we looking for?
It is essential the candidate has:
- Expertise in the practical use of Rhapsody SysML, particularly with generic and specialised models.
- Strong understanding of the fundamental principles of MBSE, and how they can be tailored to undefined scenarios beyond software and firmware.
- Experience of safety-related and safety-critical developments, with the necessary rigor to withstand robust scrutiny.
- The ability to work independently with initiative, whilst also demonstrating good team working behaviours and the capability to influence.
- It is desirable the candidate will also have experience of Actuation Systems and/or the contributing elements, including mechanisms, electric motors, sensors, microcontrollers, control systems, etc.
What’s in it for you?
Bridging the systems and hardware design fields, and working with the hardware designers, this role provides a great opportunity to develop in-depth hardware design skills and knowledge relating to Actuation Systems and their constituent parts.
Being involved in multiple projects simultaneously, each at different stages of development, will naturally provide variation in day to day activities as each project progresses. There will be opportunities to travel across the MBDA NATCOs in support of bidding activities, project discussions, design reviews, etc.
Implementing MBSE across all the disciplines of an Actuation System, beyond software and firmware, provides the scope to influence the MBSE activities within the wider MBDA.
What would you get?
Competitive salary, flexible working, paid overtime (subject to level), a comprehensive pension scheme, employee funded voluntary private healthcare, sporting activities, fantastic site facilities, bonus schemes (subject to level), superb learning and development opportunities and more.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the generic architectural and functional description of Actuation System products in development, including managing project specialisations to improve timescales and reduce risks. Using the Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach, you will be optimising the architectural partitioning between mechanical, electronics and software aspects.
The design trades you will be involved in will be truly multi-disciplinary in nature, requiring the utmost rigour in order to satisfy products with safety critical requirements.
Throughout, you will be involved in the identification and implementation of improvements in sub-system architecture, hardware design, development process and development tools, contributing to a significant number of projects simultaneously.
What’s great about the team?
The Actuation Systems CofEx is a highly dynamic and multi-disciplinary team, simultaneously developing in excess of ten products, and delivering into a variety of multi-national internal project customers across the MBDA NATCOs.
The team is constantly looking to improve development processes to reduce development time and effort, whilst increasing the performance, and robustness of each product.
Please Note: MBDA UK requires all employees to achieve and maintain SC security clearance or above without restrictions that will inhibit the individual’s ability to fulfil the requirements of the role. Your eligibility for the appropriate level of security clearance may be discussed with you during the recruitment process. Any existing clearance holders may be able to transfer clearance (subject to approval).
