Maintenance Technician ( Electrical bias )

Purpose of Role:

Providing engineering support and expertise by maintaining plant and equipment to optimise safety, quality, plant performance and product availability. The Maintenance Technician role works alongside the Operations teams supporting the factory to achieve maximum asset utilisation through prompt response and planned, preventative action.

The role is shift based, working 12 hour rotating shifts, following a set shift pattern including weekend working.

The Maintenance Technician will support the site’s TPM programme by active participation in the Maintenance Work Group, therefore helping to reduce breakdowns through root cause elimination.

Essential Skills:

Possess HNC/ONC (or equivalent) qualification in a electrical engineering discipline.

Practical and theoretical knowledge of maintaining utilities.

Practical electrical and PLC experience

Practical experience of PLC controlled high-speed packing lines and process plant.

Basic mechanical knowledge in addition to electrical qualifications

Systematic fault finding and rectification.

Effective problem solving, Breakdown analysis and root cause ability

IT skills (including interfacing with PC controlled machinery) and working with Preventative Maintenance and Stores systems.

Ability to pass on knowledge and skills to others, coaching and teaching.

Team player with strong interpersonal skills & communication skills - speaking and listening.

Self-motivated, reliable, adaptable and able to work with minimum supervision.

Committed to quality, hygiene, safety, high standards of performance and accuracy.

Ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately & consistently and learn and perform multiple functions.


Maintenance of all process and packing equipment, site services and utilities

Control systems and support equipment.

Adherence to all safety procedures and identification of safety improvements.

Issuing of permits to work and use of the isolation procedures.

Development and improvement of all maintenance procedures.

Attend team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement and TPM within the team.

Understand and feedback information relating to performance at daily engineering meeting.

Contribute to control of spares and equipment purchased.

Use of Computerised Maintenance system to monitor and analyse machine performance.

Generation, completion and return of Works Orders.

Engineering support for plant start up, shutdown and changeovers.

Work to maintain product quality and integrity.

Recording and passing on of information to colleagues on all shifts

Sharing of skills and information with others. Tutoring and advising others.

Safety of self and others
