Purpose of the job
1. Leads the delivery of corporate, strategic and service-based IT projects and initiatives across all service directorates ensuring that projects produce a result capable of delivering the business benefits as specified in the business case.
2. Leads programmes of interrelated projects from the IT Programme as required.
Main duties and responsibilities
Uses creativity and judgement to identify and translate stated business requirements into effective and sustainable IT solutions, which facilitate the delivery of business benefits and value for money to the organisation.
Manages all stages of a project from contract/proposal initiation including 3rd party solution evaluation, to final operational stage as required.
Manages the delivery of the project’s required products using the Change and Release Management processes to ensure effective transition to the operational environment.
Manages the expectations of all project stakeholders.
5. Works with appropriate IT staff to deliver future-proof technical solutions and an integrated infrastructure for client services, in line with the technical architecture road map.
6. Defines, documents and executes small projects, actively participating in all project phases and producing relevant reports, plans and schedules as
Identifies, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project.
Prepares Exception reports with team members and with the Project Assurance role if required. Prepares Highlight reports and End Stage reports for the relevant Project Board.
Estimates and monitors costs, timescales and resource requirements for the successful delivery of the project(s) to agreed terms of reference and takes action where these deviate from agreed tolerances.
Prepares and maintains realistic project and quality plans and tracks all activities against the plans, providing regular and accurate reports to senior management, and customer and user management as appropriate.
Manages the change control procedure, gaining authorisation for revisions to the project(s) from project sponsors. Actively uses and manages the change control procedure to assess the effect of changes to projects on costs, timescale and/or resource needs and reports these to project sponsors.
Actively represents the project team, ensuring that effective relationships are built and maintained with the business.
Ensures that own projects are formally closed and, where appropriate, subsequently reviewed, and that lessons learned are captured and actioned. Produces appropriate documentation to support these processes.
Assists more Senior Project Managers with the conduct of Post Implementation Reviews for larger projects.
Takes responsibility for project administration with the support of the IT Project Office.
Participates in the maintenance of a knowledge repository to aid consistent project and programme information and skills development.
Ensures that Team Leaders defines work packages and stages, ensuring that project work is controlled, makes progress, and implements any corrective action if required.
Manages project complaints under the direction of the Service Relationship
Uses tools, techniques and estimating models provided by the Project Office and provides feedback regarding their use.
