Our client is seeking a DBA / Database Administrator who is confident in working with Microsoft SQL Server. This role will suit an individual who likes to combine both DBA & development work and open to learning new techniques.

The successfully person will have proven skills in administering Microsoft SQL Server systems and is responsible for all aspects of structured data. They support the software development teams in their database projects and advise on data design and architecture. And they underpin the network teams in their support of database infrastructure. The DBA / Database Administrator will be part of the Data Team but will find themselves working closely alongside software teams and operations teams on various projects.

The DBA / Database Administrator is responsible for managing multiple databases and servers across a number of domains and environments. You will ensure that data is accessible, secure, and protected from loss and corruption.

You will maintain the availability, performance, security, and integrity of our SQL Server estate both on premise and on the cloud.

* Manage database monitoring, maintenance, performance, backup/recovery, encryption, and security.

* Agree database change timescales and review database change plans.

* Review, test, advise, and Implement database scripts provided by development teams.

* Manage the release of project deliverables into production environments safely and within agreed timescales where the release includes a database change.

* Work closely with software teams on long term database development projects.

* Work closely with operations teams on database infrastructure projects.

* Gain a good understanding of all developed software databases used within the business and the systems around them.

* Support Information security procedures and activities in accordance with the clients Information Security Policy, auditing requirements, and GDPR.

* Ensure data security, both in terms of data access and the ability to recover data in the event of disaster.

* Administer and tune databases to improve performance and security.

* Monitor databases for issues and make sure monitoring channels are running as intended.

QUALIFICATIONS

* University Degree qualified or equivalent experience.

* Experience working in a Database Administration role.

* Thorough knowledge of SQL Server, Hosted and In Cloud, and the tools used to maintain them.

* MCSA or equivalent DBA Qualification. Or progressing to Azure Database Administrator Associate.

* A good understanding of database structures that support software applications.

* You will feel comfortable working within on premise (windows architecture) and cloud (Azure) environments.

* Experience in code migration, database change management and data management through
various stages of the software development life cycle.

* Understanding of database testing and software testing.

* Experience of working in agile environments.

* Able to communicate and collaborate with different members of the IT Team, including developers, operations, infosec, QA, and business stakeholders.

* The following will be essential SQL Server (on premise), Azure SQL, SSMS, T-SQL

* Some of the following will be useful: Azure Data Tools, Terraform, Azure Devops, GIT, PowerShell, batch file scripting, Visual Studio. SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, CosmosDB.
