2nd Line Engineer (Backup & Storage)

Role Overview: We are looking for an experienced 2nd Line Infrastructure Engineer to actively manage and troubleshoot storage and backup technologies. This role is part of our Service Operations team, supporting Managed Service contracts following the ITIL framework. The team primarily operates from our Shrivenham site with occasional travel to other project locations.
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot complex systems.
- Ensure efficient backup operations.
- Manage server, virtualization, and storage environments.
- Support server OS (Windows and Linux) and applications.
- Develop capacity guidelines and monitor storage.
- Mentor team members and resolve escalated faults.
- Deploy changes and manage security patches.
- Contribute to system implementations and efficiency improvements.
- Storage technologies (Dell EMC VNX, Unity)
- Backup methodologies (Veeam B&R, EMC Networker)
- Server OS support (Windows and/or Linux)
- VMware ESX and vCenter
- Monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios)
- Ability to obtain SC Security Clearance
- Windows Server 2016/19 AD environment
- Linux (RHEL6 onwards, RHEL7+ desirable)
- Hyper-V on Windows Server Core
- RedHat OpenShift/Kubernetes/Docker
- Nutanix AHV
- Object-Based storage solutions
- Software-Defined Storage solutions
- Automation platforms (eg, Ansible Tower)
- Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM)
- Public cloud services (Azure, AWS, O365)
- Secure managed WLAN (eg, Aruba, Meraki)
- Database technologies (MSSQL, MySQL)
- IT Service Management toolsets
- Security assurance products (device control, antivirus solutions, MDM)
