Under the direction of Histology manager, the Histotechnologist on a rotation basis, process, embed, and cut all sort of tissue in area of speciality with excellent quality. Cut thin section of Kidney, GI, Skin, eye, and Bone Marrow biopsy. Cut whole mount prostate and whole human and mouse eye. Cut decalcified tissue. Perform H&E stain and variety of special stains manually and by automated stainer such as Ventana. Enter the data into PowerPath and Beaker system and print work list and labels. Keep records of the quality control daily. Interact with residents, attendings, and grossing personnel to solve any problems. Work as an on On-Call on Holidays and weekend. Maintain the equipment. Participate in special studies as required by the management, supervisor, and medical staff. Ability to be reassigned to areas as needed and on a daily basis. Check the reagent and the waste solutions for correct labeling according to the safety regulation. Work independently and trouble shoot on technical problems. Being able to change work schedule if needed. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly using correct English to answer telephones and communicate with department and hospital personnel. Adhere to all Hospital and university policies, procedures, and safety. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Working knowledge of basic chemistry, biology, and anatomy with minimum of one year experience in histology. HT or HTL ASCP board certified preferred. Skill in embedding variety of tissue with correct orientation. Skill in sectioning all type of tissue specially kidney and Bone Marrow biopsy. Ability to learn sectioning the whole human/mouse eye, and whole mount prostate. Skill in performing all ranges of special stains manually and automated. Ability to learn running variety of automated stainers and other equipment. Ability to run the tissue processors such as VIP, pathos, Sakura Xpress, and Shandon. Skill in Power Path and Beaker system or ability to learn very fast. Be able to work on weekend and holidays as an on- call once every two-month or as needed. Ability to maintain the work area clean and follow the safety procedure. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly using appropriate English vocabulary. Ability to communicate with mutual respect and consideration for diversity among individual. Ability to work as part of team and cover the missing area voluntarily. Able to maintain confidentiality. Willingness to participate in teleconferences and other continuing education program. Able to modify work schedule to meet the needs of the department. Ability to maintain the quality control. Ability to perform any other duties or tasks as requested by the supervisor
