Aqueduct Maintenance Worker (Tucson) Salary $20.86 - $21.92 Hourly Location Greater Tucson (Marana), AZ Job Type Full-Time Department Aqueduct Maint South Purpose Note: The pay range listed reflects our STARTING PAY RANGE only and does not reflect the full range which steps up to $26.75 per hour (top pay typically reached within two years with proven mastery of skills and good performance).

To perform manual labor, janitorial and semi-skilled tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of Central Arizona Project Aqueduct facilities. Completes detailed facility inspection procedures to maintain site compliance with CAP health, safety and environmental standards. Operates facility auxiliary systems and performs carpentry, concrete, welding, protective coating, pest management and equipment operations as needed.

Position Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Functions are not intended to be an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, duties and tasks. 1. Performs a wide variety of manual labor, janitorial and semi-skilled tasks associated with the operation, maintenance and general housekeeping of various aqueduct facilities.

2. Completes detailed facility inspection procedures to verify site compliance with CAP's health, safety and environmental standards. Advises Supervisor of any deficiencies and independently initiates corrective actions as required.

3. Operates trashrakes and other auxiliary systems in support of routine facility operation and maintenance. Repairs barbed wire / chain link fences.

4. Drives and/or operates one or more of the following: two-axle vehicle and single-unit vehicles such as a mowing tractor, water truck, forklift and Backhoe. Uses hand and power tools to perform maintenance tasks such as sandblasting, protective coatings, janitorial and electrical and mechanical repairs.

5. Performs vehicle and equipment pre-maintenance and safety checks as required and makes necessary repairs.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities 1. REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Knowledge, Training, Skills & Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of craft training or experience in a "semi-skilled" helper classification.
• Experience in the operation of two-axle and single-unit vehicles.
• Experience in the use of hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of construction labor work processes, terminology and safety rules.
• Knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) safety requirements.

Required Certifications or Licenses: Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. Commercial driver's license with a Tanker endorsement may be required. Depending on assigned location, may be required to obtain ADEQ waste water level one operator certification and/or a herbicide applicator license within one year of hire date. This is a safety-sensitive position and requires physical testing.

Critical Thinking & Decision Making (Impact & Independence): Ability to solve and correct moderately difficult problems. Demonstrates discerning judgment to complete assigned tasks while following established maintenance procedures, policies and practices with little supervision.

Communications & Contacts (Type & Purpose): Contacts are with immediate supervisor and workers of different departments and crafts. To obtain, clarify or give facts and information related to work flow.

Physical Demands: This position requires functional testing. The essential job requirements involve standing, walking, bending, crawling, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, smelling, squatting, stooping, twisting, climbing and sitting. Another essential requirement is lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling (in any combination thereof) of objects up to 50 pounds. Essentially, the position requires grasping and manipulation of work objects.

Essential to this position is corrected or non-corrected vision. Example: must be able to see, read and interpret work plans, maps, manuals, blueprints, specifications, books, etc., including seeing various colors. Must also be able to see to operate work equipment.

Also essential to this position is corrected or non-corrected hearing which is necessary for the ability to hear and comprehend voice communications and operating equipment as well as the ability to speak to communicate to individuals on the job. Must be able to hear to operate work equipment.

A valid Arizona driver's license is an essential job requirement. Persons in this position must have the ability to see and to hear in order to drive a CAP vehicle on improved and unimproved roads. In addition, they must assure that road safety laws and road safety precautions are followed.

Work Environment: Persons in this position may work in a pumping plant, along the aqueduct, and/or inside CAP structures. The pumping plants are electrically-heated and cooled and multi-level equipment and office structures. Persons in this position drive vehicles or equipment on improved and unimproved roadways. Outside working conditions are dependent on the weather, which involves extreme heat in the summer (temperatures over 100 degrees) and cold in the winter (temperatures below freezing).

Some work activities are performed inside of CAP structures that are non-heated and non-air-conditioned. Noise levels are generally minimal, however, they can be excessive for brief periods of time. The person in this position moves about using various conveyances such as an elevator, stairway, walk ramp and/or overhead crane. From time to time persons in this position are required to work at heights off the ground or floor ranging from 5 to 25 feet, using ladders, scaffolding and/or hoist chairs. May work in confined work areas from time to time. Occasionally works indoors in either a single-level or upper-level structured office building which is electrically-heated, air-conditioned and smoke-free. Persons in this position work in the field having to walk up and down extremely rough terrain.
