Millwright Mechanic (Welding/Fabrication) Company: Central Arizona Project Location: Phoenix, AZ Starting Pay Range: $30.77 - 32.36/hour Notes: 1) This position requires extensive fabrication and welding skills. 2) The pay rate indicated is for entry only. The compensation typically increases up to $39.45/hour quickly within the first two years of successful performance and mastery of skills. The Machine Shop Team functions to provide Central Arizona Project (CAP) with internal expertise to maintain our large and geographically dispersed industrial mechanical systems. CAP is seeking a highly-skilled, highly-motivated industrial mechanic to provide journeyman-level technical expertise in the performance and support of this vital function. CAP is the largest supplier of renewable water in the state of Arizona. We operate and maintain a 336 mile long aqueduct and pumping plant system that stretches from our source at the Colorado River to the communities of central and southern Arizona. On a yearly basis, we pump and deliver over 1.5 million acre-feet of water to enhance the state's economy and quality of life and ensure sustainable growth for current and future populations of Arizonans. In this position, you would be responsible for support of the overhaul and repair of heavy industrial mechanical equipment associated with large pumping plants, generation stations, check structures, turnouts and aqueducts. Equipment includes synchronous motors, large pumps, hydroelectric turbines, radial gates and hoists, slide gates and hydraulic operator systems. You would fabricate, modify, shape and repair metal equipment parts using a variety of metal working machines and welding methods. Also, you would perform all types of welding, burning, soldering and brazing, and is knowledgeable of AWS and ASME codes and requirements. Set up and operate machine tools to repair and/or reproduce parts and fittings, working from manuals, diagrams, schematic drawings, blueprints and/or reverse engineering. Your performance of these functions helps to ensure that equipment is safe, mechanically sound, and operating efficiently, in order to provide reliable water deliveries. Work assignments would be based primarily at the Headquarters Machine Shop, but at times you could be temporarily assigned to work at other locations across the Central Arizona Project system. If you possess a strong working knowledge of hydro-electric generating and pumping systems, hydraulic systems and controls and the ability to troubleshoot; are highly proficient in the safe use of proper tools and equipment for precision measuring and testing, fabricating, welding, calibrating, machinery alignment and leveling, reconditioning, maintaining, and repairing in an industrial mechanical environment; and are well versed about industrial safety requirements including hazardous energy control protocols; then we highly encourage you to apply for this position.
