The Accounting Director is responsible for working as a team with the CFO for overall administration of Choices financial operations including internal accounting and financial matters. The Accounting Director will ensure effective utilization of Choices fiscal, technological, and administrative resources while supporting the broad scope of Choices' services and supports. The Accounting Director will work to create the most effective and efficient Financial team. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOrganizational ManagementGuides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.Provides status of financial condition of the company by collecting, interpreting, and reporting key financial data.Works with the CFO to ensure maintenance of effective internal controls to assure safeguarding of assets of Choices and reliability of financial statements.Works with the CFO to manage the cash resources of the organization, emphasizing capital preservation while maximizing available return on investment.Provides meaningful and timely financial reporting to appropriate levels within the organization.Performs various operational audits.Assists in developing the tactical plans that support the strategic directions of the organization.Prepares monthly financial statements and ensures their accuracy and timeliness.Coordinating engagements with external auditing entities.Reviews and tracks all contracts and federal, state and local grants to determine billing requirements.Willingly completes other duties as assigned to meet the strategic and financial objectives of Choices.SupervisionUses strengths-based supervision so each person supervised comes to know his/her own strengths and weaknesses and uses strengths in day-to-day work.Ensures that each employee supervised has opportunities for personal and professional growth.Provides clear expectations for each supervised staff.Models adherence to Choices' Guiding Principles and holds staff accountable for knowing and practicing principles.Completes performance evaluations of supervised staff.Learning Organization and Staff TrainingActively participates in internal and external training opportunities.Exhibits enthusiasm for learning and personal growth.Understands and can describe key components of all Choices' programs/lines of service.Works with program staff so they understand how they impact Choices' financial results and what they need to do to reach corporate goals.Work with program staff to understand the information we are providing them and how they might use it to support their management practices.Works with program staff to understand what we might do to make their jobs easier.Community PartnershipRepresents Choices' Values and follows Choices' Guiding Principles within the community at all times. TechnologyEffectively uses office equipment (copiers and scanners), a personal computer, and Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Effectively uses fiscal management software including Great Plains.QualificationsMinimum of bachelor's degree in finance or accounting. CPA preferred.Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in finance or accounting.Knowledge of non-profit financial operations and federal grant and/or foundation funding.Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with fiscal management software. Prior use of Great Plains desirable.Highly organized.Must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence and auto insurance.Demonstrated ability to:Work effectively with internal and external individuals, including other professionals in the community.Work effectively as a member of a team.Effectively communicate to various internal and external audiences in both person and through various electronic media.Manage time and work effectively with minimal supervision.Effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
