Stationary Diesel Engine Operator / Mechanic South Florida Water Management District Naples, FL

This position is responsible for operating, maintaining and overhauling stationary diesel engines, large pumps and ancillary machinery and equipment at a pumping station within the Big Cypress Basin Field Station's area of responsibility. S/he performs preventative maintenance of diesel engines, main pumps, generators, compressors, raw water intakes, and trash rakes. The operator detects, diagnoses, repairs and reports machinery and equipment malfunctions. S/he utilizes basic mathematical skills and reads drawings to understand piping system and machinery layout while maintaining a history of machinery equipment and water conditions. Employment Guidelines: High School Diploma or GED and 2+ years of experience in the operation and maintenance of diesel engines.Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without restriction to operate vehicle equipped with a manual transmission.Ability to obtain certification in Rigging, Forklift Operations, First Aid/CPR/AED. Physical Requirements/ Working Environment: Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role. The position primarily works inside during pumping operations and outside maintaining equipment and facility. Some exposure to unpredictable weather conditions. May work various shifts covering 24 hours a day seven days a week. Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental conditions. Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests and operates equipment to complete assignments. Work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities.
