Salary: $32.34 - $33.99 Hourly Location: Headquarters - Phoenix 85024, AZ Job Type: Full-Time Department: HQ Maintenance Job Number: 786 Purpose Note: The pay range listed reflects our starting pay range and does not reflect the full range which currently goes up to $41.45 per hour. The compensation typically increases quickly within the first two years of successful performance and proven mastery of skills.

PURPOSE:
Performs as a multi-craft electrical journeyman in a hydroelectric plant environment consisting of, large synchronous pumping and generating units and supporting auxiliary equipment such as: control valves, pumps, air compressors, hydraulic power units, bridge cranes, governors, heat exchangers, trash rakes and radial gates. Performs maintenance, troubleshooting and repair on a wide variety of high, medium and low voltage electrical systems requiring proficiency in: rotating machinery, power circuit breakers, power transformers, protective relays, electronic control systems as well as various predictive test techniques and procedures. Understand and possess the skills necessary to locally operate, configure, isolate, troubleshoot and return to service large pumping and generating plants or other related facilities and systems. Performs switching operations and holds clearance orders to provide safe working boundaries or zones of equipment isolation from sources of hazardous energy.

Maintains, tests, repairs and troubleshoots complex electrical and electronic systems.Performs switching of high voltage equipment (certified switchman) under safe clearance procedures.Operates overhead cranes and hoists to safely, economically and efficiently install and maintain equip­ment owned or to be maintained by the CAP.Checks, revises and updates electrical schematics, drawing and diagrams as required. Maintains continuing records of all calibration tests on equipment along with files of preventive maintenance records.Works under the direction of a supervisor or a work leader with mechanics or maintenance workers, to make independent decisions to complete work assignments in a timely and safe manner.Proficiently uses tools and equipment common to the trade to adjust, repair, calibrate, install and test electrical equipment.Performs preventative maintenance, installation, repair, troubleshooting and testing on all electrical, electronic equipment, and circuits associated with the Headquarters site. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities 1. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED SKILLS
Education, Knowledge, Training, Skills, and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.Completion of a state certified apprenticeship training program for Industrial Electrician or Protective Relay Technician; or have an equivalent com­bination of education, experience and demonstrated ability.Three (3) year's experience as a Journeyman Electrician in the related field; or completion of a CAP apprenticeship program (or other apprenticeship deemed comparable to CAP apprenticeship by management). Must possess the ability to make independent decisions to complete work assignments in a timely and safe manner.Ability to use computer programs for email, time entry, materials tracking, etc.
Required Certifications or Licenses: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record. Pre-employment functional testing is required.

2. CRITICAL THINKING AND DECISION MAKING

Independence: Analyzes engineering and manufacturer's data. Develops and follows test procedures in accordance with engineering and manufacturer's specifications. Applies IEEE and other industry standards to test equipment. Interprets, evaluates, and provides recommendations from test data. Provides preliminary designs to engineering on equipment modifications. Works independently under minimal supervision. Proceeds on own initiative while being responsible for safety, quality and performance of assigned tasks. Works under the direction of a Supervisor or Work Leader, but because of the remote locations must possess the ability to make independent decisions to complete work assignments in a timely and safe manner.

Impact: Decisions could cause immediate impact to the flow of CAP water.
3. INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONTACTS

Type: Communicates with a number of people within the CAP organization including but not limited to managers, supervisors, en­gineers, work leaders, elec­­tricians, control center operators, and clearance coordinators. It is also necessary to confer with engineers, technicians, consultants, and representatives of outside organizations and utilities.

Purpose: Communicates for the purpose of transferring test results, interpretation of data, coordinating work on equipment, issuing and releasing clearances, verifying meter readings and maintaining a level of safety in remote locations.

4. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
May be required to fill in on a temporary basis for work leaders or supervisors. These assignments are usually of short duration (1-2 weeks). May act as temporary work leader on large projects requiring instructing, assigning, reviewing and planning work. Supplemental Information WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: The essential job requirements involve standing, walking, bending, crawling, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, smelling, squatting, stooping, twisting, climbing and sitting. Another essential requirement is lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling (in any combination thereof) of objects not to exceed 50 pounds. The position also requires grasping and manipulation of work objects.

This position requires functional testing. Essential to this position is corrected or non-corrected vision. Example: must be able to see, read and interpret work plans, maps, manuals, blueprints, specifications, books, etc., including seeing various colors. Must also be able to see to operate work equipment.

Also essential to this position is corrected or non-corrected hearing which is necessary for the ability to hear and comprehend voice communications and operating equipment as well as the ability to speak to communicate to individuals on the job. Must be able to hear to operate work equipment.

Persons in this position must have the ability to see and to hear in order to drive a CAP vehicle on improved and unimproved roads. In addition, they must ensure that road safety laws and road safety precautions are followed.

This position involves extensive in-state travel.

Work Environment: Persons in this position may work in a pumping plant, along the aqueduct, and/or inside CAP structures. The pumping plants are electrically heated and cooled and included multi-level equipment and office structures. Persons in this position drive vehicles or equipment on improved and unimproved roadways. Outside working conditions are dependent on the weather, which involves extreme heat in the summer (temperatures over 100 degrees) and cold in the winter (temperatures below freezing). Some work activities are performed inside CAP structures that are neither heated nor air-conditioned. Noise levels are generally minimal, however, they can be excessive for brief periods of time. Persons in this position move about using various conveyances such as elevators, stairways, walk ramps and/or overhead cranes. From time to time, persons in this position are required to work at heights off the ground or floor ranging from five to 25 feet, using ladders, scaffolding and/or hoist chairs. Persons in this position may work in confined work areas from time to time, occasionally work indoors in either a single-level or upper-level structured office buildings, which are electrically-heated, air-conditioned and smoke-free, and work in the field, having to walk up and down or along extremely rough terrain.
