Superintendent Big Cypress Basin South Florida Water Management District 2467BR Job Description The Superintendent is responsible for all day-to-day activities at the Big Cypress Basin Field Station by ensuring all work processes, staffing assignments and maintenance schedules support the agency's core mission of flood control, restoration, and water supply. Other key assignments that are unique to this position include: Working very closely with the Big Cypress Basin Service Center, Collier and Monroe county officials and Water Managers to address operational needs within Big Cypress Basin's area of responsibility. Developing and presenting PowerPoint presentations for the quarterly Big Cypress Basin Governing Board meetings for this region. Traveling to multiple pumps stations in the region to perform pump station inspections to ensure standards are met and pump stations are kept operational, mission ready and adhere to plans and specifications. Reports findings to Bureau Chief level. Develops and adheres to a fiscally responsible budget to support and accomplish the agency's core mission functions and water resource priorities; continuously looks for and implements opportunities to streamline operations. Analyzes budget results against targets and pro-actively implements mid-cycle adjustments. Procures and manages contracted work in accordance with District procurement policies and procedures and established time frames; manages vendor selection process to ensure quality, competitiveness, equity and diversity in contract awards; manages contractor performance effectively. Manages resources strategically and tactically and eliminates redundancies and non-value-added work efforts. Re-directs staff, schedules and equipment to effectively respond to unplanned events, critical operations and/or special work requests. Addresses all human resource issues on a timely basis (i.e., recruitment, supervision, succession planning, performance, training, certifications). Maintains regular communications with managers and staff; keeps executive management regularly apprised of the status of agency priorities and informed of important issues affecting District operations and policies; works and communicates collaboratively across divisions/offices. Interacts with representatives from federal, state and local agencies associated with the District's core missions. Keeps abreast of industry trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and technology improvements and recommends changes where appropriate. Ensures staff's readiness to respond and support the field station's emergency management operations. Ensures all company policies and procedures are followed, including all safety and security procedures, protocols and controls. Work Hours: Monday - Thursday, 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with a graduate level preferred 10+ years of experience field operations maintenance Experience in the operations and maintenance of water management processes Experience of increasingly responsible work in construction/ maintenance/ operations; experience in several field station functional areas (eg, canal levee, structure maintenance, pump stations, etc) 6+ years of supervisory experience License Valid State of Florida Driver's License. Physical Requirements/ Working Environment Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during, and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role. Composition of office and field work, with regular exposure to a hot and humid environment in remote and heavy vegetative areas.
