Highways England have awarded telent the contract for the operation and management of NRTS2 (National Roads Telecommunication Services), NRTS is the network of communication and control that Highways England uses to monitor and manage England's motorways and major trunk roads, it is a critical component of national infrastructure supporting the country's 4,400 mile strategic road network.

The contract includes a major technology transformation programme in addition to general maintenance and management of the network; The transformation programme comprises of 11 technology projects, including the introduction of new wireless and IP CCTV services, new management systems and the next-generation upgrade of all technology, this will ultimately enable Highways England to prepare for the future and enable safer roads, more efficient delivery and a better road user experience.

We are looking for an individual keen to pursue a career within a health and safety environment. It is essential you have practical experience of a Highways environment which can be now be used to enhance the Environmental Health and Safety offering to telent staff as well as the wider public.

What we are looking for from you:
Prepared to work towards an industry recognised Health and Safety, eg NEBOSH certificate.
Working knowledge of EHS legislation.
Practical use of Microsoft Office applications and IT based Document Management Systems.
Knowledge of operational telecommunications within traffic/transport environments and their associated risks.

Role Profile:
To provide competent Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) advise to the telent NRTS business.
To ensure implementation of the EHS Management System relevant to the telent NRTS business operations and as detailed within the telent Management System.
To provide support in the ongoing maintenance of the telent Management System and Hazard Logs.
To promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the organisation.

Typical Deliverables:
Support the adoption of all relevant EHS legislation, Customer and stakeholder EHS requirements (including Contractors and suppliers)
Support the adoption of industry best practice in all policies, safe working procedures and practices.
Helping to plan, implement, monitor and review the protective and preventative measures that are identified by the hazard analysis and risk assessment process.
Work with the EHS Manager to ensure that working practices are safe and comply with legislation.
Outlining safe operating procedures, which identify and take account of all relevant hazards
Conducting suitable and sufficient risk assessments, ensuring control measures are effective.
Producing and reviewing Safe Systems of Work, Work Package Plans and Task Briefing Sheets.
Advising project teams on safe systems of work and industry best practice, to ensure a culture of safety.
Support the EHS Manager to ensure that all health and safety training for managers and employees is appropriate and training provided by external providers is adequate.
Support the EHS Manager to ensure that all NHSS8 internal health and safety training for registered operatives is appropriate and that external training is adequate for the scope of activities.
Undertaking regular site inspections and audits to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
Recording findings from inspection and monitor through to close out.
Supporting investigation of Incidents, Accidents, Near Misses and Close Calls, advising of changes and improvements in work practices that are identified.
Supporting the production of Contract and Customer EHS statistics.
Advising on a range of specialist areas, eg site based environmental compliance, fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and Occupational Health.
Liaising with other Safety Professionals within the business and industry.
