The Reading Specialist will be responsible for providing direct instruction to students individually or in small groups (push-in or pullout) and enable every student to develop literacy skills. The successful candidate is also responsible for implementing a comprehensive literacy program in the building. The Reading Specialist will coach and support teachers in best practices for literacy instruction for a variety of student populations and reading abilities. Does other related duties as assigned. Additionally, the successful candidate will: Identify literature for use across all content areas in support of the curriculum.Collaborate with, and coach teachers on, the use of assessment data to plan instruction; analyze school literacy data and plan for future literacy needs.Provide ongoing training and follow-up in the use of assessment tools.Participate in collaborative instructional planning; collaborate with the Instructional Coach.Conduct classroom visitations and provide regular feedback to teachers and administrators on the school's literacy program.Maintain a comprehensive inventory of instructional materials and resources. QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess New York State Teacher Certification in Reading K-12 OR Literacy B-6 and/or Literacy 5-12. Must also possess New York State Teacher Certification in Special Education SWD 1-6 OR 7-12 Generalist OR hold Permanent Special Education Teaching Certification K-12. START DATE: September 3, 2019. SALARY: $46,000.00 (2 base salary) with additional salary credit for appropriate prior experience, Masters Degree and Grad Credits. Excellent benefits are available.
