Neonatal Nurse Practitioner I or Neonatal Physician Assistant-Wheeling

UPMC Newborn Medicine is hiring a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Ior Neonatal Physician Assistantto help support the NICU Department at Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, WV. This full-time position will provide coverage during 24-hour shifts and assist with rounding, delivery room and inpatient care.
The Staff Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a member of the care delivery team. The Staff APP is responsible for setting the standards for the level and quality of care. The Staff APP has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician. The Staff APP manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The successful candidate will be placed according to years and months of experience for employment purposes.
Provides primary health care and emergency services to high-risk newborns and infants. Obtains history, performs physical exams, interprets lab, radiographic, and clinical data to assist in developing a plan of care for each infant under physician supervision. Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with protocols and policies as consistent with the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners. Collaborates with nursing and allied health staff to help in providing family teaching and coordinating discharge planning.
- Coordinate plan of care and procedure with the patient's primary nurse.
- Elicit, record, and interpret a complete health history, including past medical, obstetrical, family and psychosocial aspects.
- Initiate emergency evaluation and treatment.
- Make appropriate referrals in consultation with the attending physician for medical consultations, supportive services and regulatory reporting of patient safety issues.
- Participate in determining conditions, resources, and policies basic to sound health care of the high-risk newborn. Participate in the planning and presentation of continuing education programs for in-house medical and nursing personnel, referral hospital personnel and future RN's and Neonatal CRNP's. Serve as a resource outside the hospital system in areas where his/her expertise can provide a community service.
- Perform comprehensive physical assessment of the newborn/infant, order and interpret laboratory, radiographic and clinical data in planning and documenting the course of management and discusses the plan with Neonatology Faculty, Fellows and consultants.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures necessary for the care of the patient. Such procedures are carried out in accordance with established protocols and after verifying patient name and birthdate.
- Provide support as well as information regarding the infant's condition, progress, and plan for care to parents/family, referring and consulting physician.
- Record and dictate interim, discharge, and transfer summaries.
- Regularly perform high level invasive procedures such as umbilical line placement.
- Serve as a member of Nursing and Medical committees as indicated. Contribute to the body of medical and nursing knowledge through collaborative and independent research and publication. Maintain clinical competency and keep informed of current trends and developments in neonatal nursing and related medical progress through continuing education and review of the literature. Participate in Neonatal transports from referral hospital by ground and/or air.
NNP Level I
• MSN is required
• Completion of an Accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program
• Two years level III NICU experience is required
• 1 year experience or completion of a neonatology residency program.• Graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) is required.
•BS required, MS preferred

This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- NNP-current state RN license and NNP certification
- National certification, eligible for licensure by West Virginia board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by West Virginiastate board of nursing
- Neonatal PA- Physician AssistantState Licensure, NCCPA
- current CPR certification is required, based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- NRP or STABLE required
- Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
- Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance
