Health & Safety Manager Hudbay Minerals Inc. is a dynamic, fast growing, global mining company with a base of operations in Manitoba (Canada), Peru, Nevada and Arizona. The Arizona Business Unit (ABU) is seeking a Health and Safety Manager to develop, implement, manage, and administer all safety and health programs affecting employee and public safety, occupational health, fire protection and prevention, mine safety and health regulatory compliance, safety training, and equipment and property protection for ABU, including the project phase, construction, mine, processing activities, and office activities. This position ensures conformance to company policies, procedures, and related government regulations. Reporting to the Vice President of ABU, the Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for monitoring legislation and regulatory requirements for changes that may now or in the future impact site operations, as relates to the health and safety and assisting in leading the development of company health and safety resources objectives, philosophy, strategic planning, and comprehensive policies and programs that align with Hudbay. This position is currently located in Tucson but will transition to the Rosemont site, south of Tucson. During the course of regular business, the employee may be required to travel locally as well as internationally, to other business units and the Toronto Corporate office. Duties: The Health and Safety Manager provides advice and direction to senior management and all levels of the organization regarding ensuring behaviors and the interpretation of health and safety policies are consistent as they relate to the employees' and company's objectives Serve as a resource for construction and operations management for development and implementation of a proactive health and safety program that prevents incidents of injury and property or equipment damageProvide technical assistance to project, construction, mine, processing, and office operations to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Company health and safety regulationsEnsure that all necessary systems are in place to effectively manage health and safetyIdentify opportunities to improve current standards; this may involve a change in procedure or new equipment/materials that would improve safety standardsEnsure training is provided on new standards and practices as requiredMake sure that all protocols are followed in the case of lost time accidentsReview accident/incident logs on a daily basis; may conduct investigations and is accountable for ensuring that investigations are completed correctly and in line with policies and regulations; follow up with investigations until issues are resolvedMonitors legislation and regulatory requirements for changes that may now or in the future impact site operations, as relates to the health and safetyBuilds good relationships with government; influences policy makers as appropriate; interprets new legislation that applies to the company and determines appropriate course of action to meet new requirementsPromote communication to enhance and encourage employee awareness of and compliance with safety and occupational health, accident prevention, fire prevention, facility and equipment damage, and other risk management activities at ABUKnowledge of training and supervisory techniques, and employee policies and proceduresKnowledge of Federal and State safety and health regulations, to include MSHAEnsures all departments in the division are adhering to objectives expectations and initiates immediate corrective action when necessaryFosters positive attitude toward company goalsResponsible for health and safety productivity, scheduling, budgeting, performance standards, and asset managementResponsible for the employment, performance evaluation, counseling, and discipline of assigned employeesOther duties as required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a safety and health science, engineering, or industrial hygiene discipline along with ten (10) years relevant professional surface mine and plant safety work experience to include blasting operations and HAZMATAbove experience should include two (2) years of safety and health supervisory experienceSafety certifications such as CSP, CMSP, and/or CIHPrevious experience in industrial construction and safety preferredExperience in Management Systems, ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 preferredMust demonstrate an understanding of OSHA and MSHA regulations as they apply in the copper mining and construction industries to include but not limited to reporting, regulations, statutes, compliance, and programsMust be a good communicator and be able to work in both a team and an individual setting Category: Healthcare , Keywords: Occupational Health Manager
