Responsibilities

Mortenson Engineering Services is currently seeking to fill an Engineer I in Minneapolis, MN or San Antonio, Texas. The Design Engineer position is responsible for the detailed design of high voltage substation and transmission projects through 500 kV. The individual will be responsible for performing a broad scope of engineering assignments while working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements.
Responsibilities: Responsible for the engineering aspects on substation and transmission design projectsWorks independently with occasional direction from their Engineering LeadComfortable interfacing and presenting to multiple stakeholders (e.g. customer decision makers, project teams, etc.)Begins performing technical designer responsibilities on 1 - 3 large design projects annually across 69Kv and above scopesShall be capable of evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria by using judgment in making adaptations and modifications and providing data analysis, interpretations and conclusions with support from other EngineersAssists with the review of equipment vendor drawings and testing reports on major equipment from manufacturers with Lead Engineers reviewProvide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement and constructionCoordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to successfully deliver design projectsAssist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditionsDeveloping project management and analytical problem-solving skillsIncreasing understanding of discipline specific technical designs, QA/QC procedures, and engineering policiesWorks under the supervision of a senior level engineer with specific work objectives

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE preferred) or related Engineering program required 1 - 3 years related work or field experienceProficient in engineering theories and principlesProficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendationsEngineering-in-Training (EIT) certification or achievement of EIT within 6 months of entering position with the expectation of achieving a PE license in the future Mortenson is an EOE/Affirmative Action/M/F/Veteran/Disabled employer.
