Senior Marketing Manager

This is a professional, supervisory position responsible for implementing directives of the Division Executive Director and the Tourist Development Council in promoting and increasing tourism for the Tallahassee-Leon County area.

Oversees work and manages the internal Marketing & Communications department. Coordinates activities and strategic direction for the department. Oversees the development and implementation of the annual plan. Establishes performance measures, evaluates performance, and coaches and counsels employees.
Assist the Division Executive Director and performs duties as a replacement when necessary. Initiate and manage marketing and promotional partnerships. Assist with industry and destination management issues. Represents the Division and County with community and industry groups. Assist in the development and implementation of the Division's Emergency Response Plan and assists the Executive Director with responsibilities and staffing at the Emergency Operations Center. Maintains relationships with other Destination Marketing Organizations on the local, regional and state levels.
Identifies opportunities, based on consumer interests and travel purchase patterns, to develop promotional plans which highlight appropriate destination and industry amenities. Develops and implements customized, integrated promotional programs and support for major events and festivals. Develops and implements on-going promotional programs highlighting destination assets such as history and heritage, outdoor recreation, dining and entertainment, arts and culture with owned and earned media. Evaluates program performance through the analysis of third party research, website and social media analytics. Identifies opportunities through on-going review of third party research, consumer data, web site and social media analytics.
Oversees and manages the work of advertising and public relations agencies. Develops, oversees, implements and evaluates advertising, promotional, social media and public relations programs for the destination, making adjustments to programs when necessary.
Reviews, revises and evaluates the performance of the Division's websites -- VisitTallahassee.com, Trailahassee.com and CapitalCityAmphitheater.com. Reviews, verifies and processes monthly invoices from the advertising and public relations agencies. Assures the integration of all advertising and marketing elements to internal and external audiences.
Develops and manages cooperative marketing initiatives to benefit the destination and industry partners. Evaluates existing programs or recommend the development of programs with VISIT FLORIDA and other external entities. Develops, recommends and manages cooperative advertising opportunities with media partners through the advertising agency. Seeks promotional opportunities with industry and community groups -- COCA, Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association, Gulf Winds Track Club, FSU, FAMU, et cetera.

Ability to manage, motivate and provide direction to staff. Ability to make presentations and conduct media interviews. Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary. COMPLEXITY OF WORK
Independent judgment must be used in situations to make recommendations to the Director. Employee must be able to handle multiple tasks and manage problems that may arise internally and externally.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACT
Internal contact with department staff as it relates to efficiency of operations and Tourism issues. Considerable external contact with various agencies, local industry stakeholders, and residents of Leon County.
EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USEDPersonal computer and various software programs, including IDSS; typewriter, fax, adding machine/basic calculator; and car are some of the equipment and tools used in this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work primarily indoors in an office setting. Considerable time spent outside of the office in meetings with stakeholders and in researching various product offerings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSGraduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Tourism, Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, Hospitality Management, or a related field, and at least five years of tourism industry experience, of which two years must have been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements:
A valid Florida Class "E" Driver's License and a favorable driving record.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt. Employee performs professional and supervisory work in marketing Leon County as a visitors and tourist destination, exercising discretion and independent judgment.
