Director of Education The Director of Education is responsible and accountable for proactively directing the Education Division including its assets and resources. Responsibilities include making recommendations to Tribal Council, develop, and implement initiatives, set the tone, climate, and vision for the Education Division, while ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities and directives. Management of the Education Division includes programs for Early Childhood Education, Yaqui Education Services (K12/Higher Education), Community, and Adult Education (Adult & Continuing Education/Tech Ania & Charter High School) and the Community Library and Resource Center. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Supervise staff, prioritize and assign work, conduct performance evaluations, ensure staff are trained and follow policies and procedures, maintain a healthy and safe working environment, make hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.Develop and implement policies and procedures, evaluate strategic program objectives, interpret, apply, policies, and procedures for the Education Division.Meet with Tribal Council, other directors and community members to examine the community needs regarding the development of long-term programs, strategic plans, establishing goals and objects.Provide direction in the development of projects, direct programs, allocate resources, evaluate cost efficiency, and division operations.Oversee, administer and monitor the budget, approve expenditures, facilitate modifications to the budget, and provide fiscal management.Pursue and participate in grant applications and additional funding request by identifying community and business partnership opportunities, including but not limited to, federal, state, local governments, and philanthropic organizations.Provide reports and presentations on program accomplishments, fiscal issues, make recommendations, and review strategic planning objectives to Tribal Council, Oversight Chair, Division staff regarding projects, and planning activities.Monitor division activities to ensure compliance with all applicable tribal, federal and state regulations and guidelines relating to the Head Start program, Indian Education Federal funding, and other grant entities.Develop a team approach in ensuring of developing programs and curriculum, provide staff and financial resources meet the current, and future educational needs of Tribal members.Provide comprehensive training and information to parents and the community on educational issues including, but not limited to, Native American educational needs, programs available in the local school system, higher education opportunities, community resources that promote and provide birth to elder educational experiences.Act as the Educational Advocate, on behalf of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, for Tribal schools and represent the division on/at the local, state, federal level, attend meetings and participate on national boards, advisory groups, committees, task forces, and public events.Establish working relationships with local school system personnel to promote the development of curriculums to assist Tribal students: exchange information with various organizations and agencies concerning the educational needs of the community.Train and develop tribally enrolled staff to ensure successful career progression and transition to positions of higher responsibility by utilizing cross training and mentoring plans with emphases on the Assistant Director and management positions.Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions. Education, Certifications and Experience Required Bachelor's Degree in Education, Public Administration or related field, eight (8) years of work experience in Education or a related field including fours (4) years in a management position involving education or school administration.
