Allen Lane is delighted to be supporting the National Lottery Heritage Fund in their search for a Senior Developer to join the organisation on a permanent basis. It's an exciting opportunity to support the improvement of their user-centered digital services including the Front End website and Back End private administrative interfaces. This is a fully remote position but candidates will need to be based in the UK.

The role

As a Senior Developer you will:

  • Work alongside the other Senior Developer to make key choices around languages, frameworks and deployment approaches
  • Support the delivery and implementation of a replacement grant management system as they move over to a new investment management service.
  • Develop software in Ruby on Rails, especially to enable the delivery of a highly usable Investment Management System that will require the integration of Salesforce with numerous other systems, most crucially the website, which you will also have a major role in developing
  • Take joint responsibility for technology stack choices, especially languages, frameworks and databases, Secure systems and user data
  • Advising other colleagues on technology choices and their implications
  • Provide constructive criticism to colleagues to improve everyone's skills and work
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary agile team
  • Support and mentor a Junior Developer

Key Skills required

  • Working knowledge of Unix-like operating systems such as Linux and/or OSX, especially making cloud hosted services ready for testing and production deployment
  • Working knowledge of database systems
  • Building Server Side web applications, with detailed knowledge of at least one open source framework eg Rails, Django, Express
  • Front End web development (HTML/CSS/JS) - formal design training not required because you will be working with a UX designer
  • Building and using test suites
  • Contributing to securing digital systems against hacking and intrusions
  • Knowledge of modern version control systems
  • Building integrations with 3rd party APIs
