ASSOCIATE R&D METALLURGIST - READING, PA POSITION OVERVIEW - Provide a range of technical services to our internal and external customers supporting the attainment of Company and Division goals. Couples technical expertise with industry knowledge to supply state-of-the art technical / support services. Researches, plans and designs experiments, coordinates research projects, evaluates results and provides recommendation to management. Plans, supervisors and reports on laboratory alloy development and product development. PRIMARY DUTIES Responsible for planning, developing and executing experiments and analyzing and reporting the results in a collaborative team environment. Serves as technical or program lead on small to medium sized development programs or assist senior engineers in sections of major programs. Develop/maintain technical knowledge base in core areas. Build on knowledge of Carpenter business. Develops technical credibility and reputation across organization based on delivering results. Submit suggestions and construct patent applications in key new technologies and processes. This position will require the job holder to creatively solve problems and develop new solutions. Problem solving will require a very diverse acquired knowledge base including thermodynamics and materials science. Decisions referred to manager would include best approaches to use for experimental plans and determining overall project priority. Accountable for safe operations and effective use of tools and work processes. Take responsibility to resolve technical project road blocks to maintain progress to program milestones. Elevates to management as necessary. Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, Metallurgy or related discipline is required. 1+ years of related academic or industrial research experience is desirable, but not required. Basic computer skills are required. Solid academic knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices. Knowledge or statistical methods, six sigma and/or BPI practices. Ability to support and/or lead team efforts. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks. Ability to access mill manufacturing areas. Ability to travel. Ability to work with close supervision. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. REQUIRES US CITIZEN OR GREEN CARD HOLDER.
