TITLE OF POSITION: ICON-ESR Re-melt Metallurgist LOCATION: Athens, AL OVERVIEW: The ICON-ESR Re-melt Metallurgist will: Develop and create the process line-ups used in the manufacture of products. Initiate and correct line-ups in the Mainframe system. Interact with the operations personnel on the shop floor to identify and correct non-conformances in product. Handle the review of ingots melt traces for conformance to procedure and the disposition of N/C material in the RMR and MRB systems. Work with the Product Metallurgy group to resolve questions on acceptance of material. Be responsible for creating heating cycles for ingot annealing as required, participating in customer audits when required and providing basic metallurgy coverage in other areas as required. Assist in the development of new electrode conditioning practices, development and maintenance of melt procedures for materials, development of heating cycles for products in the Athens Anneal Automation System. Interact with the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and Mainframe Shop Floor (MFSF) system. Work with Operations personnel (operators, supervisors and management) daily. PRIMARY Provide a diversified range of technical services to our internal and external customers supporting the attainment of Company and division goals. Disposition referred, non-conforming and off-standard material, including but not limited to RMRs and customer claims. Provide training and education to key customers. Provide support, leadership and guidance to peers, customers and manager in key projects and opportunities. Lead others in the use of statistical methods and experimental design. Manage functional project teams to address and solve complex technical problems and recognize business trends for alloy and process development, including project planning and budget compliance. Recognize and communicate technical risk to management. Apply SPC, six-sigma and/or BPI tools to detect project inefficiencies. Interpret internal/external business issues and recommends best practices in own function. Effectively manage projects or teams, including coordination of resources outside of own area. Forecast and plans resource requirements for projects or teams. Monitor and control costs for own work and may manage costs/budgets for large projects or areas. Solve complex problems using a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Anticipate customer needs, assess requirements and identify new solutions. Lead others to resolve complex problems in non-standard situations and develop creative solutions. Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Four-year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or related field or equivalent experience as determined by department management. 6+ years related experience with proven strong performance Advanced knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices. Advanced knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment. Demonstrated knowledge of newest and latest technologies available. Experience reacting to changes in schedules and providing required technical assistance, including the disposition of N/C material and resolution of manufacturing problems rapidly. Functional knowledge of statistics, six sigma and/or BPI practices. Ability to serve as a mentor to internal resources as requested Excellent interpersonal and communication skills-written, verbal and listening. Ability to initiate and lead and participate on project teams as appropriate. Ability to reliably and consistently deliver results on-schedule. Ability to use SPC, six-sigma and/or BPI tools to search for and eliminate waste. Ability to recognize, measure and communicate technical risk and recommend actions. Demonstrated ability to predict future needs for alloy development. Ability to identify potential new products, processes and partners. Ability to provide training and education to key customers. Ability to access mill and manufacturing areas. Ability to respond to internal and external customer needs in a timely and effective manner. Ability to travel. PREFERRED: Advanced degree preferred for R&D. Ability to organize, prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. Ability to assist others in the use of statistical methods and provide support to others for experimental design. Ability to provide support, leadership and guidance to peers, customers and manager in key projects and opportunities. Ability to be a self-directed. Ability to publish 2 papers per year. Ability to bring 2 new external partners or ideas to Innovation Technologies per year.
