TITLE OF POSITION: Finish Process Metallurgist OVERVIEW: Support manufacturing cost of poor-quality reduction efforts in finishing, with a focus on improving chemical/cleaning and coating processes. PRIMARY DUTIES: Establish and optimize input/output tests, critical process variables and set up standards at work centers Use Excel to analyze RMR and UPO yield variance data by work center to identify targeted areas for improvement efforts Support finishing work center enhancement or engineering projects, incl. equipment upgrades or new installations Identify critical process variables and ranges that impact product attributes Review scheduled to identify critical orders or lineups Process audits of finishing areas to ensure improvement activities are sustained Attend daily production and management meetings to drive quality focus Participate in weekly quality meetings with finishing departments Provide Metallurgical support of coatings in wire finishing REQUIREMENTS: Four-year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or related field. 2 - 4 years' experience in a related metallurgical or engineering role. Working knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices. Working knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment. Knowledge of six sigma and/or BPI practices. Knowledge of statistics and data analysis. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) PREFERRED: Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. Ability to access mill and manufacturing areas. Ability to travel. Ability to provide support and guidance to peers and manager in key projects and opportunities with minimal assistance. Ability to provide support and guidance to external customers in key projects and opportunities with moderate assistance. Strong communication skills-verbal, written and listening Ability to support and participate on team efforts. Ability to lead small projects and direct work. Ability to assist internal and external customers.
