METALLURGICAL LAB TECHNICIAN - Magnetic Alloys 1st shift Reading, PA location PRIMARY DUTIES Material and sample preparation, including cutting, stamping and heat treating of magnetic materials. Assist with R&D projects related to magnetic alloys. Plan and prioritize daily testing of production orders based on material ship dates and test backlogs. Perform tests on the magnetic properties of metals including, but not limited to, flux density, permeability and coercivity. Conduct miscellaneous testing as needed. Actively participate as a team member on daily testing, R&D projects, continuous improvement initiatives and safety teams. Interact with metallurgist for all magnetic testing requests. Monitor and track equipment calibration status and maintenance issues. Communicate with vendors and OEM's regarding technical support and lab related operation. Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned. REQUIREMENTS Two-Year Associates Degree in a technology related field preferred. High School Diploma required. 5+ years of relevant experience with electronics and magnetics theory and their application is preferred. Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel. Advance knowledge of metallurgical/laboratory equipment, preferably with experience in magnetic materials and related testing. Knowledge of alloys including manufacturing processes and material properties is preferred. Proven ability to solve complex problems, take a new perspective on existing processes and make recommendation to improve standard processes. Requires extreme attention to detail and error proofing, continuous improvement mindset and experience coaching/mentoring less senior members of a team. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and problem-solving skills. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. Ability to work in a fast-paced and every changing work environment.
