Senior System Engineer - Hybrid/Rugby - £64k
Must be able to attain SC clearance.
Overview:
The Application Services Infrastructure and Solutions team maintains and supports Hosted Services simplifying control room IT management and reducing risk with ongoing enhanced communication functionality to meet the needs of the UK's emergency services.
Responsibilities:
Produce outline system designs and specifications, and overall architectures, typologies, configuration data-bases and design documentation of networks and networking technology within the Pronto and CCCRS hosted services.
Specify user/system interface, including validation and error correction procedures, processing rules, access, security and audit controls. Assess associated risks, and specify recovery routines and contingency procedures. Translate logical designs into physical designs.
Undertake routine installations and de-installations of items of hardware and/or soft-ware.
Take action to ensure targets are met within established safety and quality procedures, including, where appropriate, handover to the client.
Conduct tests of hardware and/or soft-ware using supplied test procedures and diagnostic tools. Correct malfunctions, calling on other experienced colleagues and external resources if required.
Document details of all hardware/software items that have been installed and removed.
Initiate and monitor actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems and services. Assist with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures.
Specify user/system interfaces and translate logical designs into physical designs taking account of target environment, performance requirements and existing systems.
Produce detailed designs and documents all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate.
Skills Required:
Fundamental Knowledge of System Level Design.
Fundamental Knowledge of VMware and NSX.
Fundamental Knowledge of Microsoft Server Family including core Servers, High availability always on clustering, IIS (web hosting), Application Request Routing, files shares.
Fundamental Knowledge of network principles, WAN technologies, routing and Global Load balancing.
Fundamental Knowledge of Microsoft SQL.
Experience with SIP technologies including WebRTC.
Experience with/architecting or supporting Azure.
Strong troubleshooting skills.
Strong business/customer facing experience.
Experience/Desirable with Web Map Services.
Experience/Desirable with REST API interfaces.
