Infrastructure Engineer (VMware) - Remote

£40,000 to £45,000 + Remote + 25 Days Holiday + Lifestyle Allowance + Private Health Care + Live Insurance

A leading technology company specialising in cloud-based solutions is hiring an Infrastructure Support Engineer with exposure to Datacentre Infrastructure to join the operations department on a hybrid basis located in Exeter.

Our client specialises in various markets and technology platforms across the sector. With well-known application suites, online services, massive national-scale data, and premier geospatial datasets, they are at the forefront of innovation/leadership in the industry.
To be suitable for this position, you must understand VMware, vSphere, and Storage (SAN, EMC VNX, NetApp, IBM or Nimble), ideally within a corporate/enterprise environment.

The Opportunity

The Infrastructure Engineer will focus on providing the smooth running of the data centre and associated technologies used by our client. You will work as part of a team, managing multiple concurrent tasks with varying technologies.

The role will involve:

Managing physical server and storage infrastructure to ensure all systems function as required and meet the targeted Service Level Agreements
Ensuring the smooth functioning of our clients IT infrastructure; liaising with 1st and 2nd line teams, application support, developers, product managers, suppliers and other analysts as required to this end
Regularly analysing systems to ensure that they are capable for future planned capacity and functionality.
Working with other analysts to identify repeating incidents and escalate into the Problem Management log
To provide administration and support services for existing VMware services for in house and hosted environments
Recommend, plan and design changes to the VMware virtualisation infrastructure to address the requirements of the business
To ensure optimum performance and availability of on premise VMware ESXi Servers through monitoring and pro-active maintenance and housekeeping
To provide VMware, Citrix and additional technology monitoring, including regular information reports, analysing performance and capacity profiles

Core skill set:

To succeed as an Infrastructure Engineer, you will have extensive experience in a technical support and implementation role and proven experience in providing third-line support in a similar field. You will be able to analyse problems and determine the appropriate solutions.

Experience with VMware vSphere
Experience in providing helpdesk-style technical support to internal and external users
Knowledge of Storage technologies, eg EMC VNX, NetApp, IBM or Nimble
Varied Windows and Linux Operating Systems administration skills
2+ years' experience with MS Active Directory at Enterprise/Multi Forest Scale
Good capabilities in Backup Solutions (SAN/NAS)
2+ years' experience with MS Exchange and Exchange Online
