Infrastructure Patch Engineer

My client is a specialist broking group in the London Market offering a highly diversified range of insurance-related products and services across the full insurance value chain in the UK and broader international markets.
As the Patching Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining the patch management systems used to deliver Windows and third-party patches. The Patching Engineer will also be responsible for configuration tasks, troubleshooting issues as they arise, and creating documentation of processes when needed. This position requires the ability to work outside of normal business hours on nights and weekends as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for server (both Windows and Linux) and network client patching
- Assess and test patches
- Coordinate with other IT team to perform testing
- Ensure security patches are applied to all affected Servers according to company policy
- Produce patching monthly progress report
- Keep inventory of all Servers and software licenses including back-ups, antivirus, hypervisor, etc.
- Manage hardware and software maintenance contracts
- Administer user account eg creating, deleting, or updating user account information, assigning user access rights, resetting passwords.
- Administration and management of server and its software such as installation, backup, maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Monitor and tune system performance to improve resource usage, avoid hardware failure and processing bottleneck.
- Ensure the security settings of systems are carried out as per the company's security rules.
- Analyze system/event logs, identify and correct potential issues with the systems.
- Responsible for documenting system configuration for equipment under his/her care.
- Facilitate development and implementation of new installations, migrations and improvements to the structure and efficiency of company's IT network.
- Ensure that security and audit requirements defined by the company are complied with.
- Assist solution architect in carrying out product evaluation, prioritizing solution options and describing strengths/weaknesses of different alternatives.
- Review and improve/harmonize existing processes.
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Experience working with Patch Management, Reporting, Agent Procedures, and Policy Management
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server and Workstation Operating Systems
- Experience troubleshooting server software configuration issues
- Experience with VMware vSphere & ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V
- Experience with Wintel and Cisco
