Based in HM Naval Base Portsmouth (PNB), BAE Systems Small Boat business is set up to manufacture and repair a wide range of military specification small boats for both the Ministry of Defence and other military and commercial customers. A Mechanial/Electrical Fitter will work within the manufacturing department of Small Boats. The work will cover boat refit, repairs, operational defects and upgrades.

Safely and professionally deliver planned and reactive maintenance on a variety of craft within the key performance indicator criteria while adhering to the working time directive. The Mechanical/Electrical fitter position is one that is key to the success of the operation. Working alongside Shipwright/Boat Builders, Laminators and Mechanical/Electrical Fitters, the multi skilled trades work closely alongside each other to undertake the individual boat work packages. Electrical fitters specialise in all aspects of the electrical systems fitted to each boat so knowledge of electrical 12v, 24v and 240v systems fitted in and around small diesel engines, common instrumentation, charging systems and batteries is fundamental. Suitable candidates will have a good understanding of safe systems of work including electrical work, electrical safety and electrical tag-out. A sound knowledge of electrical/electronic ancillary equipment is essential including a range of small boat communications and navigation equipment. This role will be the key specialist electrician within the team and as such the candidate will be expected to a take the lead on all electrical work associated with the boats. An ability to fault find on installed systems is essential.
