Design Engineer - Urban energy systems

Adecco's specialist Property Services Division North are delighted to be partnering with Equans in recruiting for a permanent Design Engineer to works alongside their Urban Energy Team that designs for the district heating and cooling networks throughout the UK.
Purpose
The Design Engineer position is characterised by the contribution and ownership of projects to develop district networks - The team has the capability to design energy centres, pre-insulated buried piping networks and plant room heat exchanger assemblies.
Duties
Mechanical Design Aspects and Buried Design Aspects
- The design of heat exchanger assemblies and buried piping for district network consumer connections.
- The design of energy centres, including boilers, CHP units, thermal stores, pumps, chillers and auxiliary systems.
- The use of 2D and 3D CAD packages in the creation of engineering schematic and layout drawings.
- The production of tender scopes, specifications, bills of materials and engineering calculations.
- Technical support and design coordination with internal and external stakeholders, including business development and project managers, contractors, clients and design consultants
Candidate requirements
- BEng/BSc Mechanical Engineering Degree (or similar, minimum of a 2:1 standard).
- Experience in a relevant field or similar role.
- A basic knowledge of relevant standards and an ability to seek, understand and utilise industry knowledge to good effect.
- An ability to size and specify valves, instruments and piping components.
- Experience with the creation and detailing of bills of material for plant equipment, valves and instrumentation.
- Experience of producing Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and engineering schematics in 2D
- Experience of 3D modelling and detailed design of energy centres, CHP units, boilers, chillers and district heating network installations in 3D AutoCAD, CADWorx Plant Professional or similar.
- Experience of writing sub-contractor scopes of supply, specifications and major plant tender documentation.
- Experience in designing buried pre-insulated BS EN 253 piping systems to BS EN 13941.

- £35,000- £45,000 annual pay (depending on experience)
