We are hiring enthusiastic, driven, and passionate individuals to join our established and growing Conservation Detection Dog Team.
The use of conservation detection dogs to protect and preserve our natural environment is becoming an ever more efficient and popular survey method worldwide. The detection team will work nationwide, monitoring bird and bat collision mortality at wind farm sites. Candidates must be comfortable working in remote and physically challenging environments. The information gathered during surveys will be used to identify conservation measures to avoid and reduce impacts on wildlife.
All relevant training will be provided, and candidates must be passionate about working with animals. Following a vetting process, trained and operational dogs will be supplied to handlers. As is standard practice in this industry, dogs will reside with their handler. This helps to build and strengthen the relationship between the handler and the dog. The welfare of the dog(s) is a priority and the responsibility for day-to-day care will rest with the handlers.
MKO is offering full-time positions based in Galway, with benefits such as a company vehicle, accommodation allowance for housing dogs, fully paid training and professional memberships, competitive salary, and career growth opportunities.
A full clean driving licence is an essential requirement for this role.
Key responsibilities:
• Ensuring the welfare of dogs is of the highest standard. • Scheduling, scoping and conducting site surveys. • Data gathering and compilation. • Completion of reports and mapping. • Pricing work, invoicing, and completing projects within defined budgets. • Personal and canine continuation training.
Experience required:
• A demonstrable understanding of dog behaviour and rewards-based training. • Strong organisational skills and the ability to follow protocols in the collection and management of data. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Previous GIS experience would be an advantage. • Experience across the Microsoft suite including Word and Excel. • A professional background in ecology, animal behaviour or animal husbandry would be an advantage.
