Software Developer
Location: North Bristol
Salary: Up to £45k
Our client, an award-winning leader in the insurance industry, has identified an opportunity for a junior software developer to join a busy, supportive and interactive team. The work is wide in scope providing a broad range of activities and can be performed on a hybrid basis
Purpose
Responsible for developing and supporting in house insurance application.
To analyse, develop and test all applications using the appropriate processes, methods and standards.
Job Description
The main responsibilities of the role are:
Undertake analysis, design, programming and testing for the development of new systems.
Provide support for, and enhancements to, existing systems.
Produce technical documentation to support the development of new systems.
Develop relationship with business users to aid full understanding of business requirements.
Make recommendations as and when required to improve systems.
Adhere to change control and inhouse release management processes.
Provide assistance to others across the business.
Produce accurate estimates and monitor progress against established project milestones.
Provide regular updates to management on the progress of work.
Proactively identify and mitigate against project risks
Liaise with the Support Desk and the larger team to ensure priorities are being correctly addressed.
Work through all aspects of the development lifecycle as well as contribution to and implementation of improvements to best practices, high quality design and development of software.
Embrace and drive ownership of personal and team objectives doing everything you can to achieve them.
Demonstrate high standards of personal performance.
Prepare for and participate in formal appraisals which are delivered in line with current appraisal frameworks.
Demonstrate the ability to change focus quickly to support the needs of the business – including covering for other roles where required – displaying energy and commitment in all you do.
Carry out any other duties as reasonably required by your Line Manager.
Ensure compliance to IT controls in all activities undertaken.
Maintain effective verbal and written communications and relationships with all colleagues and customers to promote a professional business environment.

To provide consistent reliable accurate estimates for changes to systems.
Deliver to agreed levels of quality and in the agreed timescales.
To follow QA practises in the development and testing of software.
All documented business processes followed.
Work in accordance with group policies, client and regulatory requirements and operational frameworks.
Adherence to the company’s Learning & Development and HR scheme.
Personal Attributes
Essential :
1-2 Years’ experience working in a professional software development environment.
Technical proficient in the following skill sets:
MS Visual Studio
C#
.Net framework
Entity Framework
MS SQL Server development, TSQL/Stored Procedures
Demonstrates a systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving.
Flexible and able to absorb new information or change in plans in a rapidly changing environment.
Source Control Practices using source control tools, e.g. TFS
Understanding of the principles of software architecture and patterns.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Good appreciation of the wider field of IT.
Desirable :
Degree level or equivalent.
Knowledge of design and software development methodologies.
