This countryside charity is a long-established and highly respected voice on planning in England. As they come up to their centenary in 2026, they're deeply involved in influencing far reaching reforms to planning contained in both the Levelling Up & Regeneration Bill and National Planning Policy Framework.

Could you help this countryside charity get better outcomes for rural communities, the countryside and our climate? You'll report to the Head of Policy & Planning but also work closely with fellow policy and research leads, and their External Affairs, Engagement & Income and Volunteering & Partnerships teams.

In this role you will take on an exciting and highly varied programme of work in which no two days are the same. They are looking for a planner who has a strong interest in tackling the climate emergency and securing equality, diversity and inclusion in planning processes and outcomes.

You will:

  • Initiate and manage research projects relating to their main campaigns, including on affordable housing, renewable energy and countryside protection and access
  • Advise and work with senior managers and local groups on national planning policy issues of relevance to the charity's work, in particular through policy advice and research papers, and providing training
  • Advocate for the charity's campaigns and policies through engaging in relevant government consultations and representing them to key policy and political audiences
