Purpose of Role:

The role functions as a member of an area team that is directly responsible for the maintenance of production facility in order to produce quality products in the required quantities in a safe manner. The Maintenance 1 Technician role is responsible for providing maintenance support to the site to minimize downtime; provide preventative maintenance to equipment, provide Continuous Improvement ideas, and facilitate the teaching of maintenance to fellow associates. The Maintenance 1 Tech will foster teamwork by adhering to our HPC guidelines and our Ways of Working. This associate will own his task and provide feedback on his or her needs

. Requirements:

Principle Accountabilities:

•Strong technical, interpersonal, and problem solving skills.

•Complete all Safety and Food Safety training.

•Skilled in basic mathematics for general calculations.

•Have good communication skills, to access relevant information about equipment and provide clear information about equipment condition and status in a professional and respectful manner.

•Work in a planned maintenance role, focusing on equipment condition, and continuous improvement.

•Follow the site escalation process.

•Foster a team environment, be approachable at all times. Participate during team meetings and support the business in reaching the metrics for quality safe production.

•Provide coverage to ensure immediate response to emergencies, diagnose faults quickly and make immediate repairs.

•Follow our CMMS work order system task as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor, Planner Scheduler and System Techs.

•Work within strict time deadlines.

•Perform installation and repairs in an efficient and professional manner.

•Adhere to all safety and sanitation standards.

•Continue education and training as necessary to keep up with plant technology changes.

•Have and maintain in good working condition, the tools necessary for the trade.

•Assist in identifying improvements and participate in creative problem solving.

•Attend all pertinent training on new equipment brought into the facility.

•Maintain good housekeeping and repair of the maintenance shop areas.

Key Responsibilities:

•Follow all Safety and Food Safety Procedures

•Communicate with the prior shifts and Maintenance Supervisor about previous shift issues and activities. Through Shift Handoff or using our Escalation Board.

•Communicate critical situations involving the major breakdown of equipment (defined as something that will prevent production for 30 minutes or more), major product or tallow spills, and plant emergencies (fire, flood, loss of power). Follow Escalation Procedures.

•Complete P.Ms or Work Orders in a timely manner. Own the completion and escalate any road blocks.

•Be willing to work flexible shifts.

•Be willing to work work-ends and holidays as the business dictates.

•Call ins are possible.

•Keep all equipment in safe operating condition to ensure the safety of all associates, and be responsive to requests for prompt action on safety related items. Will place out of service tags on any unsafe machinery.

•Repair any unsafe or malfunctioning equipment, guards, electrical cords or masonry, and will make Maintenance Supervisor aware of these issues.

•Rebuild equipment as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor and the System Tech.

•Make suggestions on proper tooling for facility, communicating needs on materials that are soon to be out of stock, work to discard tools that are no longer useful, and be accountable for companys tools and parts inventory.

•Complete all required safety training

•Complete all required quality and food safety training

•Adhere to all GMPs (bump caps, ear plugs, safety shoes, uniforms, etc.

Key Functional Skills/Knowledge

•Must possess excellent mechanical abilities, and be able to rebuild, replace or repair the plants equipment. Must be able to read commercial blueprints.

•Must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair all plant electrical problems, including having the ability to read electrical schematics, troubleshoot motor controls using multi-meters and the process of elimination, install new electrical controls, wire motors, run conduit, wire in circuits, and have a working knowledge of PLCs and related software to be able to trouble-shoot issues..

•Ability to install and troubleshoot single and three phase electrical systems

•Must be able to troubleshoot pneumatic equipment, and repair valves, rebuild cylinders.

•Must be familiar with and be able to repair hydraulic lines, pumps and related equipment.

•Must safely handle plant plumbing issues, including being able to thread and fit piping (PVC, copper, galvanized, and stainless steel).

•Understand and follow LOTO and Confined Space procedures.

•Must safely handle sheet metal fabrication, including being able to design, modify, repair or build new or existing equipment. Must be able to safely use torches, plasma cutters, and perform with MIG, TIG, and wire and stick welders.

•Must have base knowledge of boilers and their functionality, identify and replace critical components such as float valves and pressure switches.

•Must be able to assist in preparing the boiler for audits by regulatory agencies.

•Ability to share information to our associates to train them when needed.

•Must have good interpersonal skills, ability to work well in a team environment as well as working with minimum supervision.

•Must have good problem solving skills.

•Must be able to understanding mechanical and electrical theories. Capable of working at elevated heights and wearing the proper PPE.

•Wearing proper personal protective equipment (hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform)

•Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

•Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot to cold, dust, dirt, noise, and chemicals


•High school diploma or equivalent

• Vocational or technical institution training desired.


•Prefer 4 years experience in a manufacturing maintenance environment
