IT Support Engineer

Our client a leading organisation in the manufacturing industry have an opportunity for an IT Support Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis. You will be working closely with head office and factory staff to ensure smooth running of all IT equipment. This role is a fantastic chance for an individual local to Matlock to enhance their skill set as well as working for an organisation with a generous benefits package. Role responsibilities
  • Provide full hardware and software support to users and interface with IT support team at other UK sites
  • Providing support and maintenance for all IT equipment, telephone systems and networked devices including mobile phones
  • Provide cover (and flexibility to attend out of hours as required) for disruptions to business-critical processes, disaster recovery and assist in the development of future disaster recovery and business continuity strategy.
  • Manage general software updates, review software applications for updated releases and implement new releases where appropriate.
  • Maintaining and managing supplier relationships and invoices.
  • Providing 1st and 2nd line support for all IT issues.
  • Facilitating the smooth running of production IT equipment.
  • IT Incident Management maintaining the day-to-day running and operation of the IT helpdesk, in addition to responding to and resolving incidents and service request quickly.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of core infrastructure including VMware virtual hosts, HP network switching, Sophos Firewalls and Unifi access points.
  • Develop and maintain patching schedules to ensure all Servers and network equipment is secure and up to date.
  • Ensure that documentation, help guides, and standard operating procedures (SOP's) are maintained and up to date to assist in future incident management and daily operations.
  • Act as a technical lead in the delivery of departmental and wider business projects and goals.
  • Maintain supplier relationships, contracts and licenses.

Skills required:

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent level of work experience and knowledge
  • At least 2 years' experience in a similar role
  • Able to work independently, frequently acting without guidance, planning own tasks or assignments
  • Shows initiative in the skills related to work, using own discretion and judgement.
  • Communicate effectively with UK IT and other users in the US
  • Ability to deliver both the reactive and proactive elements of the role.
  • Works safely, leading by example and insists others do so as well.
  • Follows good housekeeping standards in the workplace.
  • Able to work as part of a team and build and maintain relationships.
  • Prepared to work flexibly and out of hours to manage updates when critical business systems require attention so as not to disrupt the normal operation of the systems.
