Are you a theoretical biologist looking to make an impact on real-world problems? Do you have experience in building and using computational models in population biology or related fields? If yes, this role may be for you. Our client are extending their resistance modelling capabilities and are currently looking for a resistance modeler to work with plant-pathogen systems. The position is based in Basel (Switzerland), currently being offered as a temporary position (1 year), but with plans for extending to a longer-period contract as soon as budget permits.
Your main responsibilities will be:Develop resistance-evolution models applied to fungicides.Support these models after they deployment with key internal and external stakeholders.Assist in resistance-modelling activities applied to other product lines.Establish and maintain internal and external scientific collaborations for the continued development of resistance-evolution models and the understanding of resistance evolution as a business-critical process.Present your work internally (diverse levels of detail) and externally (scientific conferences and publications).
Your skillsPhD, MSc or comparable experience in building and/or applying models in general population biology (e.g. population genetics, ecology, epidemiology, etc.).Knowledge of at least one of the following programing languages: R, Python, C#, C++, java, Matlab.A keen interested in evolutionary biology; experience with resistance evolution and rapid adaptation in particular is a major asset.Fluent in English, written and spoken.
