To provide a comprehensive, effective and confidential reception and telephonist service
To act as an integrated member of the Patient Services team, demonstrating a flexible approach, ensuring the needs of patients and visitors are met
To deliver a switchboard service to support the Trust, answering and connecting calls and dealing with caller's requests and enquiries
Dependent on agreed working patterns between manager and employee, this post may be a Designated Night Worker post under the Working Time Regulations 1998.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1.1 To provide a front line telephony service and out of hour's reception for the Trust, ensuring customers are dealt with in a helpful, courteous and efficient manner.
1.2 Maintain professional relationships with other agencies, eg; Neighbourhood Services, Police, Probation Service, Education, PALS, Benefits, Voluntary Services, etc.
1.3 Provide a warm and welcoming initial point of contact for patients and visitors to the Trust and to deliver a high standard of customer care.
1.4 Taking calls from bereaved relatives who wish to see the deceased and contacting the Mortician on-call out of hours to arrange a time for them to see their relative.
3.1 Answering the switchboard emergency phone in a prompt, calm and clear manner.
3.2 Activating the appropriate emergency team bleeps as necessary repeating the exact message received on the emergency phone in a calm and precise manner.
3.3 Dealing with telephone enquiries from health and social care professionals and the general public and accurately recording and delivering messages as required.
3.4 To remain calm under pressure and maintain a professional approach at all times.
3.5 To demonstrate the ability to work on your own initiative dealing with a wide range of calls from the public, staff and emergency services promptly.
3.6 To keep the reception area tidy.
3.7 To test all the emergency team bleeps including Cardiac, Trauma, Code Blue, Code Red, Fire bleeps on a weekly basis and recording response in the appropriate books. Contacting and follow up anyone who has not responded to check if their bleep is working
3.8 Respond to Boiler, Medical Gas, Pharmacy, Intruder, Lift, Panic and any other alarms held centrally in switchboard, using the correct protocol in dealing with them.
3.9 Changing and charging of bleep batteries
5.1 To comply with the roles and responsibilities as defined in the Trust's Health & Safety Policy.
5.2 To be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults by undertaking the appropriate level of training in accordance with the safeguarding policy training strategy and being aware of and working within the Trust's safeguarding policies.
5.3 Ensure all data collection and processing undertaken is consistently accurate and timely and complies with the Trust Data Quality Policy and local procedures.
5.4 Undertake any other similar duties in line with the key purpose of the job.
5.5 Infection Prevention is of paramount importance to the safety and wellbeing of our patients at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The Infection Prevention and Control Team use national and local guidance and policy to formulate Infection Prevention Policy and Procedure documents. It is the responsibility of all Hinchingbrooke Hospital employees, to comply with the Infection Prevention and Control Policy and Procedure documents. Compliance with the relevant documents will be assessed during appraisal.
