Are you a Chief Operating Officer or Practice Director with experience of working within a professional services environment? Would you enjoy a role that combines the strategic and hands-on operational responsibilities of managing a professional services firm with exciting plans?

Our client, a leading professional services firm based in a prime location within Central London are looking to recruit a proactive and driven COO to work with and support the Managing Partner. Freeing up the Managing Partner and allowing him to focus on the strategic and longer term goals of the Firm, the COO will have an effective and meaningful impact on the Firm's efficiency, productivity and performance.

Working with the Partner group and Senior Support team, the COO will provide accurate and relevant management information to various stakeholders, in a timely and consistent manner. They will ensure that the financial position of the Firm remains a key consideration in all tasks they undertake.

It is expected that the COO will be the direct report for the Financial Controller, HR Manager, Head of IT and Client Relationship Manager. The COO will report into the Managing Partner and guiding counsel/partners generally.

As the successful candidate you will have a positive "can-do" approach, understanding what the key business requirements of the firm are. You will have the ability to get buy-in from partners and staff and will be committed to working with them towards a shared goal.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the daily execution of firm strategy, usually in an operationally intensive manner
  • Allow the firm to retain executive talent that other companies may be trying to lure away
  • Provide leadership to those under your command so that they might take more initiative in their roles
  • Complement the Managing Partner, serving as a co-leader; ensuring that you are acting on behalf of all partners
  • Be a change-agent charged with championing a specific piece of work, such as developing internal systems and operational discipline, entering a new market etc.
  • Take oversight of the compliance function and keep up to date with the market and regulations


As the successful candidate you will have:

  • Proven experience as Chief Operating Office or relevant role
  • Understanding of business functions such as HR, Finance, Marketing etc.
  • Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
  • Working knowledge of IT/Business infrastructure and MS Office
  • Outstanding organisational and leadership abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
  • BSc/BA in Business Administration or relevant field is a plus
  • Experience of working within a Partnership environment
  • Experience of leading Firm-wide initiatives
  • Hands on approach to all tasks - taking ownership and accountability
  • Experience of creating, producing and developing MI reports
  • Experience of communicating with Partners and staff at all levels.
