Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle, is currently recruiting for an Assistant Director, Parent/Guardian Giving. The Assistant Director, Parent/Guardian Giving reports to the Director of Major and Planned Giving. This position joins a 10-person development office, which manages the school's fundraising through annual, major, capital, and planned giving programs; alumni and constituent relations; special events; and archives. The position's primary responsibility, with the Assistant Director, Alumni Giving, is to co-manage and co-administer the school's Annual Fund, which raises more than $2.5 million for the school's operating budget. Key Annual Fund components include alumni and parent/guardian volunteer recruitment and training to conduct peer solicitations; a direct mail and phonathon program; a faculty/staff campaign; and a gift information management and tracking system.


  1. Co-manage and implement the Annual Fund program using a variety of solicitation and stewardship methods. Develop creative and effective outreach strategies. Set goals for dollars and participation for all Lakeside constituencies (parents/guardians, alumni, parents of alumni, faculty/staff, grandparents,friends). Oversee the Annual Fund gift acknowledgement process and budget.
  2. Work seamlessly with the alumni relations and major and planned giving programs to ensure a strategic, effective, donor-oriented approach to fund and friend raising.
  3. Recruit, train, and support volunteers who help carry out the Annual Fund program.
  4. Create, manage, and participate in events/activities that have an impact-direct or indirect-on fundraising, including receptions, alumni and parent/guardian phonathons, gift acknowledgments, and donor stewardship.
  5. Work with the communications staff to develop communications tools to support fundraising efforts, including: printed materials such as direct mail appeals and an annual Report of Contributions (ROC); social media; and website strategies
  6. Work with the director of alumni relations to help instill a culture of philanthropy in the school's 12th grade students, including their participation in the Annual Fund.
  7. Provide regular reports to development office staff, trustees, administrators, and key volunteers. Analyze the productivity of solicitation efforts and make recommendations for improvement.

Requirements and Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing successful fundraising programs.
  2. Personable style with an interest in others, excellent listening skills, and a track record of successfully making the gift ask.
  3. Superior organizational skills and expertise at coordinating, prioritizing, and managing a yearlong list of complex projects. Effective in handling multiple concurrent tasks.
  4. Exceptional written and verbal communications capabilities.
  5. A motivated, responsive professional, with the ability to meet deadlines and handle many details; someone who is forward-thinking and a good planner.
  6. Computer proficiency on Windows/PC platform, with spreadsheet, data-base, and wordprocessing software is essential; demonstrated experience in analyzing fundraising data, producing reports, and suggesting possible program changes.
  7. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team; to hold self and others accountable to accomplish results; and to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  8. Liberal arts bachelor's degree or the equivalent.
  9. Two to four years of experience in development work, preferably in the not-for-profit or education sectors.
  10. Experience with fundraising software is preferred.
  11. Prior experience managing volunteers desired.
  12. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms and carry office related supplies and equipment.
  13. Ability to walk from upper school to lower school campus (about 3 long blocks away).
  14. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds overhead.
  15. Standing/sitting for long period of time during event days which exceed eight hours.
  16. Potential exposure to dust.
  17. Exposure to outside weather conditions such as rain, snow, wind and fog.
  18. Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions.
  19. An understanding of different perspectives, the ability to interact respectfully with cultures other than their own and the ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with people who have different cultural frameworks.
  20. Candidates must satisfactorily complete two criminal history background checks.
