Founded in 1970, the Southern Illinois University (SIU) SOM has received national and international recognition for innovation in medical education and offers a welcoming environment for physicians who are dedicated clinician-educators. The Department of Internal Medicine is recruiting a Division Chief of General Internal Medicine. The Division is supported by the ambulatory faculty, hospitalist faculty, advanced practice providers, nurses, medical assistants, registered dietitians, pharmacists and social workers.
The Division is foundational to the Department of Medicine for delivery of exemplary primary care and to the SIU School of Medicine for the critical role it plays in education. It has an established track record of high caliber and innovative teaching of medical students, interns and residents. Memorial Medical Center, a 450-bed community hospital, and the Department's outpatient clinic are the primary teaching sites for the Division. In May 2015, Memorial Medical Center opened the Center for Learning and Innovation, expanding SIU's vision to be a national leader for excellence in medical education through skills training and simulation laboratories.
