Factory Operations Manager - Food Manufacturing

Location: Glamorgan

Salary: £60-70,000 + great benefits + career opportunities

This position is responsible for all activities that occur within the manufacturing facility. The Senior Factory Operations Manager Bakery operates effectively as a leader with direct responsibility for manufacturing and key support process operations. You will lead through influence in a matrix organisation in relation to additional functions that occur at the facility. The purpose of this position is to achieve continuous improvements in the areas of safety, efficiency, quality, customer service and leadership so as to deliver financial profitability for the factory.

The role:

  • Oversee manufacturing operations for a dynamic food manufacturing facility consisting of hourly associates and a broad management staff.
  • Lead the achievement of a zero-injury workplace by ensuring safe work conditions for associates and compliance with all regulations on environmental, health and safety issues.
  • With a focus on the front line and a bias for action, ensure associates have the tools resources and capabilities to succeed and deliver on expectations.
  • Understand, coach and teach the principles of Manufacturing Transformation, including lean tools, process capability and operational discipline.
  • Responsible for all aspects of operations and achieving key performance measurements related to personnel safety, quality and food safety, service, and cost, while continually improving process reliability and performance.
  • Build a culture of mutual respect, teamwork, and professionalism, demonstrating active support in the Company's values and policies.
  • Extend capabilities to meet market needs and support profitable growth of the products produced by the facility.
  • Build an organisation that is customer focused, flexible, and has a strong business acumen.
  • Conducts performance appraisals and talent assessments of the management team and recommends and/or implements appropriate training programs to address developmental needs.
  • Drives the NPD agenda through operational scale-up.
  • Provide strategic leadership to align the business and people practices toward deliverables representative of best in class.
  • Keep abreast of market conditions, competition, technological advancements, and supplier dynamics that impact our business.
  • Lead High Performing Work Teams to achieve balanced performance against key measurements and objectives.
  • Prepare annual operating budgets with plant and division staff and execute plans within agreed upon budgetary and time constraints.

The person:

  • Degree educated, or equivalent
  • Has shown career development manufacturing leadership experience, within the food industry ideally Bakery or an ingredients led business
  • Experience of leading managers to achieve incredible results
  • Demonstrated leadership of safety initiatives.
  • Demonstrated track record leading the improvement of operations while delivering day to day performance.
  • Familiarity with the operations of all plant departments: production, quality, maintenance, materials management, NPD etc.
  • Participative management style and excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience building a strong management team.
  • Strong business acumen and working knowledge process control and improvement tools.
  • Proven highly effective management skills
  • High degree of integrity and judgment
  • Thorough knowledge of plant operations and procedures
  • Strong strategic thinking, critical thinking, and analytical ability
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Position level determined by plant size and operational complexity
