Operations Manager - Architectural Metalwork

Location: Near Braintree

Salary: Competitive salary & benefits package commensurate with experience

Our client have an exciting opportunity available for a rapidly growing architectural metalwork company. They are looking for an Operations Manager due to continued growth and expansion of the company.

Our client is a well-established company based in Essex with many years' experience in the architectural and secondary steelwork industry, they design, value engineer and manufacture many types of metalwork for almost every type of public or commercial building.

The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall management of the shop floor ensuring products are manufactured to schedule and within quality standards.

Responsibilities of the Operations Manager:

  • Ensure the effective day to day running of the shop floor via accurate and timely capacity planning.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement to obtain first class levels of production and on time performance targets, measured against customer required dates.
  • Identifies, recommends and implements changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data.
  • Assists Operations Director in the development and formulation of long and short-term planning and objectives.
  • Directs and coordinates various programmes essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g. training, health and safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.).
  • Ensure effective leadership of direct reports, managing absence, performance, training requirements and employee relations issues.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.
  • Supplier and sub-contractor management
  • Quality and Cost control over all projects and budgets
  • Time management & programming of tasks for internal and external staff
  • Any other duties for which the post holder is qualified for and capable of undertaking

Requirements of the Operations Manager:

  • Experience of people management and associated responsibilities
  • High level of knowledge of associated health and safety legislation
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of an organisation ·
  • Strong analytical capabilities, financial acumen and ability to understand and work with budgets ·
  • IT literate in MS Office applications.
  • Must have a good knowledge and understanding of all relevant areas of manufacturing including sheet metal, welding and final assembly.
  • Proven experience in a similar role in an engineering manufacturing environment, preferably in.
  • Proven track record of success in assembly and manufacturing engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong relationships.
  • Candidates need a full UK driving

The successful candidate will ideally have a proven background within a similar role and be organised and efficient. Candidates will need to have excellent communication / IT skills and be comfortable and capable of with working to deadlines.
